Passenger doors wont open from inside or outside

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 A3 1.6 diesel 8P and the two passenger doors will not open from the outside or inside. The door mirror cannot be adjusted either and the central locking only works the drivers door and the right rear passenger door. Does the drivers door lock control the other doors?

The driver's door lock is indeed the master lock, however the A3 is known for broken wires in the rubber bellows between doors and pillars. I suggest you remove all the door cards and inspect the wiring.

Hi Cliff. Thanks for the quick update. The wires between drivers door and pillar have been checked and they are not broken. The passengers doors are locked shut so I can't check those but would say that as I have mostly travelled by my self, the opening and closing of the passenger doors has been a fraction of the drivers door. Is it worth changing the drivers door lock for the small cost involved?

Checking the other doors. How do I get the doors open when they are locked closed?

I can't help on that score. A current similar thread came across the same problem and was lucky that repeated attempts at the door handle eventually worked.

Note that a new door lock may need to be effectively coded to the car. I am not sure.

Thanks for all your help Cliff.

Hi Cliff. Just an update on the passenger doors not opening, I re-visited the question of broken wires at the drivers door pillar seeing as the garage had not put the cover back on the plug, and I find 5 broken wires where they said there were none. Have ordered the necessary parts and will carry out the repair myself. Thanks for the pointing in the right direction.

That's gratifying to know. It's possible that repairing the driver's door wiring will restore operation of all the other doors/windows/mirrors, however it would still be worth checking inside them all including the boot lid.

Funny you should mention the boot lid........................... Watch this space

I have exactly the same issue with an A3 sportback. No power to passenger side doors, locks, windows and mirror. Doors are locked shut and cannot be opened!

Damaged wires on the drivers side (pillar to door have been replaced, cannot check the passenger side since the door is locked shut!

Anyone know how I can manually unlock the passenger side doors?

Any other pointers as to where the fault may lie?

Thanks in advance.

Follow up, I won't bore you with the details but it turns out the control module for the passenger side is incorporated in the window motor for the front passenger side door. changing the motor fixed all the problems!!

Thanks Audi for making the wiring as complicated as possible!!!
