Speaker Interference & Wiring / Amplifier Issues

Featured Replies

Hi all, investigating some more issues on my A3! Any help would be appreciated.

I do realise that the wiring is a common ailment on these cars, and I have a replacement door loom ready to install to rectify central locking issues.

On top of this I have also seen that the amps (one behind the stereo, and one in the boot) also like to go bad over time - although I can’t verify this to be entirely true.

Relevant Car Details;

•2007 Audi A3 8PA

•Audi Chorus System (Fully Original)

Issues;

•Rear speakers completely dead

•Passenger side speakers experiencing heavy interference, cut outs, static, tin-y-ness

•Driver side speakers experiencing sparse cut outs, temperamental interference such as static

Investigation;

•Driver side door loom has cracks and breakages

•No other doors have visibly damaged looms

•Plugs/wiring to the stereo itself seem to be alright visually too

•I’m yet to take off the door cards and pillar panels to investigate the speaker connections themselves

Questions;

•Are there replacement amplifier units? Or what aftermarket options are available?

•Do the stereo head units usually go bad too, or is the issue with the amplifiers?

•Am I missing anything else, or is anything else worth investigating too?

Thank you in advance to everyone, I’ll update this thread in due course with a solution when found!

Redacting useless information

A small update, upon more investigation I believe that the “front” amplifier is inside the front head unit itself.

From this I frustratingly believe that I may need to upgrade the entire head unit to rectify my issues…

Until you take the door cards off and investigate the wiring, which as you say is known to be troublesome, you may be wasting time and money looking for more elaborate and expensive problems.

Occam's Razor should be applied here, which says the simplest solution is usually the right one.
