Audi a3 cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi hoping someone can give an idea, long story short bought Audi a3 2L diesel 2010, fine for a few days then cut out when I came to a stop at the lights, would re start was cranking over and graining, since then has had new start motor, new mafs, new ignition switch and battery has been tested with no issues, after start motor done car lasted 2 weeks no issues then broke down again just cutting out then not re starting but sometimes re starts no issues, issue is so intermittent could go out one day it’s fine could go out an hour after and it won’t start, such a decent car just desperate to get to the bottom of what this issue could be if anyone has experienced similar? cheers

Hi get the car diagnostically scanned, at the moment you are throwing money at it hoping to hit the sweet spot, codes will tell you everything you need to know, could be anything from a crank sensor to low fuel pressure on a car that age.

This is the issue, iv had it plugged in 5/6 times and no codes coming up apart from small minor issues such as heated mirror, no crank sensor code etc is showing so wasted so much money having it plugged in so many times

Hi this is a classic case for buying a decent scanner as that will allow you to go through the live data as well as tell you codes if you work out how much you have spent over 5/6 times you could have bought OBDEleven and done your own diagnosing.

Steve.

yeah this one screams intermittent fuel/engine signal issue 👍on 2.0 TDI A3s the usual culprits are:

crankshaft position sensor starting to fail (very common, causes random cut outs)

fuel pressure issue (low pressure pump or in-tank lift pump)

Relay for ECU/fuel system dropping out when hot

because it cranks but sometimes won’t fire, I’d start with crank sensor + fuel pressure check 👍
