Knocking Noise At Low Speeds - 1999 1.8T

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just joined the club and hoping someone might be able to help.

With my car being the age it is I had a lot of the worn suspension parts changed a few months ago; top mounts, front anti-roll bar and drop link arms.

After I picked the car up there was a new slight knocking noise which sounded like suspension. You can only hear it at low speeds over slight bumps, but it is constant and driving me insane! You can't hear it over speed bumps but when I reverse I can sometimes feel it jolt as if something is loose. The garage I had the suspension done at suggests it was the steering wrack!? But after my last service at audi they suggest it is the n/s front wheel bearing - I jacked the car up though and there is no play ( I had this wheel bearing changed last year as it was making the classic drone noise - could it have failed?). Audi want £500 to change a wheel bearing!! No idea how much the steering wrack would be but don't want to spend out hundreds and still not fix the problem.

Your help/suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Marcus
