A4 Avant Quattro Advice

Hi all,

Thought I'd post a new topic to introduce myself as I may soon becoming an Audi owner for the first time.

I guess I'm looking for a bit of advice though before hand!

Looking for a new day-to-day car and have for a long time liked the look of the A4 Avants. I have seen some nice examples of 03/04 year cars for sale on various sites, but want to understand the negatives before potentially making a purchase.

In particular I am currently looking at an 04 A4 Avant Garde Ltd Edition 1.8T (163) Quattro 6 speed Petrol

I believe in general all A4's have cam belt, water pump and coil problems, but is there anything else I should be aware of? I'm thinking more about the costly, one off type repairs as opposed to the little niggly bits, but any info would be appreciated.

The car I am currently considering has had the following work done. It does have 153k on the clock though......

  • Complete new clutch from Audi garage,
  • Very recent cam belt and water pump change
  • New 2 part exhaust system,
  • New pads and discs front and rear,
  • New rear diff ( common problem apparently )
  • New front anti roll bar / bushings

Any information or advice you can provide would be much appreciated. I love the look and have driven a few, but want to make sure I'm not buying a ticking time bomb!
