Could anyone tell me if there is a life span on theses gearboxes, mileage or age of car?

There's not usually a lifespan to be honest. I've see some occasional reports of failures but as far as I know there is no widespread problem with this type of gearbox. Some people like the way that they drive and others don't seem to but if you're not used to it then it will take some getting used to.
