Headlight issue

Mine is a 2013 A4 avant. Have had a headlight warning light on for a couple of weeks ,today whilst driving home the lights went out completely , but was able to continue by turning lights off and on which helped for a while and then lost lights again,

Assuming it is related to the warning light issue which I haven't attended to yet?

Are they xenon lights or normal halogens? I would probably start with figuring our what the warning light is.... is it for the bubs? I would also perhaps look at changing the bulbs to see if that is the issue?
