Hi Alison....welcome to the Forum

To be on the safe side...I would take the car back to the dealers and query it with them.

There have been a few instances (listed on this forum) of Audi's catching fire so I would definitely raise it with the dealer to be cautious and at least get it logged with them just in case of something happening.

Let us know how you get on with it all.

Cheers  Trevor

As you have a tdi my guess is your car is doing an active DPF regen.

The ecu monitors the level of soot build up in the DPF (Diesel Particulates Filter). Lots of short journies where the car doesn't reach normal operating temp can cause soot build up.

Every now and again the car needs to clear soot from the DPF. Normally a 20 to 30 min run at decent speed will do it but if that doesn't happen the ecu injects a second shot of diesel on the exhaust stroke this increases the exhaust gas temp whichs burns the soot from the DPF.

The fans you hear are just cooling everything down as you stopped the car. You can sometimes smell the soot burning. Got to admit its a bit concerning first time you hear as it sounds like the car is about to take off but its really nothing to worry about.

If you're getting this every time you turn the car off it sounds like the dpf regen isn't completing so the ecu tries again next time you use the car.

If this keeps happening, Absolute worst case the DPF cloggs up and you'll get an error light on the dash this means a trip to the stealer.
