Anyone suffered from transmission control module failure

I have 2006 2.4 auto which has developed problem's with auto transmission. Had diagnostic done which says the transmission control module is failing. A new one costs £1100 from Audi. Garage says it takes 3 hours to get to module and remove it and the same to put back etc. Have found company that claim to repair the module which is only about £200. Has anyone suffered with the same issues etc. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated.
