weigh things up mate, maybe speak to someone in an audi dealer. i am a diesel advocate through and through but then i have my reasons.... These days diesels no longer carry that benefit of being superior when it comes to reliability and economy. add that to petrol versions generally being lower mileage and cheaper to buy, petrol being cheaper to buy and the lefties doing their very best to 'tax' diesel drivers off the road it seems a no brainer.

Hi. Ok collecting my vehicle today. I've got mixed feelings. Garage said. They've tested the hell out of my car for two or three days all the top bosses/qualified mecanic's have looked at it. They found that my vehicle has the old PCV breather valve. I knew audi did a revised version as the original caused a lot of problems such as what I'm having in 2.0 TFSI engines. But only negative they do not sound 💯if this is the cause of my woes and informed me to bring it back in if problems persist.

yes. a faulty egr will potentially allow too much exhaust gas into the inlet manifold when on idle, causing the symptoms you describe. you'll lose nowt trying it, if it makes no difference you can tick it off the list

Lol, il suspect the Audi would be around the 15k mark! I'm sure the Chinese do make Bentley copies as I know for certain they make Rolls Royce copies!

Hello Andrew, Welcome to the forum. Boiling this down, I can understand you are exhausted from searching, but in reality you are really simply spoilt for choice. Imaging a situation where you believe no one is prepared to supply you with a code, then out of the blue, you stumble across someone who can, but their charges are understandable high because they offer a unique service. I guess good money would have to be paid. From online providers at around £10 through a main dealer at £15, to other main dealers at £85, seems to be enough to choose from. I have used online services for the odd non VAG car, and touch wood, they have been quick and correct, but these were used since the dealers wanted to charge about £25 - reasonable enough I thought, but the on line service was cheaper. If it were mine, I would be snapping the £15 quote dealer's hand off, since this is a bargain, and you are far more likely to have some sort of redress if the code doesn't work. I'm not sure if you are wondering whether someone is going to give you a code for nothing, and even if they did, such kindness would surely warrant some gratuity, so how cheap is a dealer's £15 in the end? I trust this isn't taken as being critical, but for right or wrong, I feel the decision just has to be yours. I'm not sure about your logic of expecting this anti theft service to be free of charge - what service is these days? - but you could of course argue the converse, and suggest that such an anti theft by- pass service should be charged at a very high rate to deter anyone trying to recode a set which has come to them via. dubious routes! How about lowering it not on the floor lol) and putting slightly larger wheels? Or just spray the wheels you have black? You couldbalso do a remap to increase power slightly and a sports exhaust ;) one think you could do is have a black or carbon fibre wrap on the roof to contrast with the white paint work. Oh and some s3 style mirrors which will be either chromed or an aluminium finish. Hope my suggestions weren't too stupid! Cheers Steve

its a pain as you only have a cheapo reader. have you checked the codes against audi's version of what they are? remember they are manufacturer specific. additionally Vag Com will tell you when the code was stamped and if it has occurred since the last clear. being a petrol air would be my first suspect. although i know that a dodgy EGR valve can cause dodgy idling on a diesel, so maybe it can on a petrol. on diesels you can normally disable the EGR as simply as removing a vac pipe, might be worth checking if thats the case for your car? it will likely throw a fault and engine light but if it that causing you problems they should go,. take a look at the EGR and see if it has a small vac pipe going to it, if it does, remove it and stick a screw in the pipe and tie wrap it somewhere safe.

Hello Harry, welcome to the forum :) youll find the members on here are a friendly bunch :) what age of a3 are you looking at purchasing? As always, check the service history and see if and when the cambelt/water pump was changed as this can cost you anywhere from £400-£600 to have done. Again check to make sure all electrical items work such as windows as the motors will not be cheap. This includes the aircon, as as aircon pumps/condensers can be expensive to fix. Also check to make sure the Quattro system is working. That may sound daft but if it's not working properly it will be expensive to put right. Is it manual or auto your looking at? If manual, make sure the clutch feels ok and it's not heavy or slipping. Check to see if this has been done in the service history. I would doubt it due to the miles. But again it won't be the cheapest job to sort. If your looking at an auto make sure the gear changes are smooth both in auto mode and manual mode. Also check the service history to see when the gearbox fluid was last changed as neglect in this area can be costly. A gearbox oil change will probably cost around £200 at a guess. Also with autos, if it has paddles on the steering wheel make sure they are changing the gears smoothly. Then lastly check and listen out for any whines from the turbo as again this will be costly to fix. Appprox £1000. I would advise you try and have an inspection carried out on the vehicle. Companies such as the AA and RAC offer this service. It's also worth doing this because if the seller refuses or tries to make it awkward then just walk away! Remember there are plenty of a3's on the market! ;) i hope iv not scared you! Just don't want you to be stung! An a3 s line Quattro that has been well looked after and maintained is a cracking car and you won't be disappointed! :) cheers steve
