  1. Hi I would definitely get some body in that line of work to look at it and tell you realtime what's been done, never been a fan of mapping as half the clowns out there have no idea what they are doing or what the long term implications of their work is, are you still getting codes? Steve.
  2. Thanks for replying. Hmm, that’s an interesting one. At present, do you think this can be ignored? Or would you recommend getting it to a mapping company; and allow them to revert and put a better map on it?
  3. good morning folks and a happy christmas to everyone,im looking for some advice,i bought a 2014 A5 last week its a nice car and im happy with it but the egr valve is sendeing on the eml and the vcds is showing code P0401 00,insufficient flow. now it was parked up for a few months so ive put in a cleaning additive and am using the car as much as possible, theres no problem with power.my question is should i get the valve replaced with a new one or get it blanked?i dont know much about this system of mapping it out and wonder will it effect the emissions when i nct [mot]the car. thanks in advance and have a peaceful christmas and new year.GREG
  4. I love in Essex Southend area and was curious if anyone knows a good reliable place to get my a3 re mapped? Cheers
  5. Hi, tbh not fussed about having no dpf, but like your other a3 owner I've tried God knows how many cleaners etc. Will endeavour to find someone who can do the mapping. Thanks
  6. Hi sorry to be the prophet of doom but thats what happened to a guy on here with an A3 of a similar year, after trying every cleaner known to the motor trade it turns out that was the problem no DPF and a bad map, I think the easiest route would be to consult another [reputable ] mapping specialist and they can normally spot someone else's bad handiwork and rectify it, thats what other guy did and I think it solved his problem, although he hasn't been on here since. Steve.
  7. Look forward to hearing the outcome. i must admit when I spoke with them there was back and forth with emails and they wanted the car for at least a day to tweak it. Please be weary to misleading information. My gut feeling is it wasn’t the torque that was the problem but mapping/fuel starvation. Regardless of their opinion/experience. The symptoms speak for themselves. shuddering vibration occurs when there the rotational velocity of the flywheel against the clutch friction plate starts to slip (clutch slip). this normally occurs at the highest or peak torque which is achieved at lower gearing not higher gearing. Now yes, most cars have torque limiting to prevent wheel slip during acceleration. But this is normally reduced up to 50% for 1st gear 30% for 2nd gear and 20% for 3rd gear. when the gear ratio becomes 1:1, typically at 4th or 5th gear, there is no electronically restriction, this is normally your rolling road testing area to determine true values for peak horse power and realistic peak torque figures. Between 3rd and 4th gear is the infamous clutch slip telling you your clutch or flywheel need rethinking. Everything they’re after is purely fuel starvation related that causes engines to shudder from a mapping point of view. if it goes pop and bang with no drive, you’ve cooked it from a over confident map chasing numbers.
  8. No probs, was just giving you the info regarding mapping it out. I do appreciate the complexity of having the taxi licence. I'd recommend you source the pats second hand from eBay including international sellers if possible.
  9. Mapping it out is in theory a no no as it's now illegal to modify or tamper with emissions systems. So would be an MOT failure and fine if caught. However, as long as there's no warning lights on the dash and system is still fitted then there's not much more MOT tester can do as it's a visual inspection. If that makes sense.
  10. This evening I got the expected warning lamps specifying the problem. Yes, the AdBlue light and the spanner, indicating system fault. As expected. So its a top up of the liquid soon and a visit to the garage to see what they might do next. Any further explanation of speciific methods to repair would be appreciated. The idea of "mapping out" the Ad Blu requirement stated earlier was intriguing, but is it legal ? Comment on that would also be appreciated.
  11. I just don't use it. Its horrid ! I use a lovely Garmin on a windscreen mount. Better display of mapping, better functionality, far easier to set. Sits more or less line of sight with where my eyes should be. I might update the Audi system nevertheless so I'll watch this thread with interest.
  12. I have an Audi S3 Stage 2 MRC tuned vehicle.....I recently took my vehicle to a local Garage in my area to change a Lambda sensor, the garage also does engine remapping. I was away for the weekend so I left my vehicle with the garage to change the sensor and the vehicle was left outside my home address after work was completed. On my return it was clear when I drove the vehicle it wasn't running like it was when I dropped it off.... Gurgling from the exhaust, noisy turbo and horrendous fuel consumption, infact the vehicle was probably doing 30/32 miles per gallon before it's visit and between 15/19 when the car was returned. I called in to the garage to bring the points up with them but the Garage owner was not at the premises. I did speak with another mechanic that was at the Garage, who told me the owner liked my car and that he had put my car on the Dyno. After speaking with some other mechanics, they advised that my car didn't need to go on the Dyno as the lambda sensor is a plug and play part. After a few weeks I decided to contact MRC Tuning, Banbury and they were concerned and asked me if I could take the car back to them to inspect. When they connected my car to the ECU they informed me that my car was no longer MRC tuned and both engine and gear box mapping had been flashed and although there was a map installed on the vehicle, the mapping wasn't MRC. They then reinstalled the original software and all problems were gone.... The gurgling from the exhaust was infact the car was over fueling, hence bad consumption.. Also the wurring noise that I could hear was the turbo over running on de-acceleration. Summing all this up! It's pretty obvious what has happened here but the Garage isn't acceptable liability. What next? Can anyone point me in the direction of a qualified solicitor that will help resolve this issue. Thanks
  13. Yes mate I had a gearbox map done whilst it was there , unsure really, been on all the other mapping companies and they seem to go no higher than 480nm most around the 450 mark , havnt seen any running 520 ish , but again , it’s not a small company so you would think they would know what the car can handle
  14. would remapping the gearbox help? Or could it be clutch slip as a result of excessive wear and tear. Much to some people’s surprise, 5th, 6th and 7th are overdrive gears. Meaning they are simply designed for final gearing for speed vs engine loading providing better mpg. bhp and torque peaks in 4th gear meaning if it was relating to the mapping it would be happening under load here. If the car is FWD it could be differential, you’re experiencing hopping at speed and under load. Then again this would be present in 4th. I recall a friend of Mine had his golf r remapped and then had problems with power band and sloppy gear changes with all sorts of vibration due to clutch slip then had his gearbox remapped and it fixed this issue.
  15. Thanks again Steve, I will be sure to find a reputable company to do the mapping and will leave the EGR and DPF alone. Just a quick update on my car, I've had the ecu software rolled back from the emissions update that Audi done and the guy who done this for me cleared the codes which still haven't come back on yet, this was done Wednesday (26th) and still nothing at the moment. I'm hoping either the DPF cleaner I used has solved the issue or I'm also thinking that the roll back may have changed the efficiency thresholds and thus not bring the warning back on. For anyone interested, the fuel economy seems to have improved a bit since the roll back as well. Jordan
  16. Thanks Steve, unbelievable that this engine has been designed like this. Well hopefully the warranty will sort my car out then I think mapping the Ad-blu out will stop this happening again. Jordan
  17. My (new to me) A4 has the 190 TDI ultra engine. Just wondering if there’s a favoured brand of Ad Blue to use and if I should add 5 litres per 5k miles or just wait for the warning and add 10 litres then? Planning to buy a filler/spout if that’s a sensible thing to do or can I just make do with the one that comes with the Ad Blue itself? Have seen a few posts about re mapping if the system itself fails but will cross that particular bridge if and when it happens.
  18. Hello Natalia, Not my field of expertise, but as I understand it, fitting a chip tuning box is a diluted route to the more expensive - and effective? - mapping, but of course I will bow to experienced opinion. Incase it matters:- I had a quick look into this route for a non-Audi and decided to leave well alone, and a year on, I’m still very much undecided. Of course, if you do decide to ‘tune’ the car then you will need to inform your insurers, who are likely to increase your premium. Kind regards, Gareth.
  19. Hi lads, I'm Brent, new to the forums (lurked for many years) this is my first post. After recently purchasing a new to me 2018 Audi S4 23k miles in excellent condition, I noticed a horrible throttle lag. This is my first Audi. I have had cars with big turbos before that took forever to spool, and this is definitely not turbo lag nor is it torque converter lag, this should reach peak torque of 500nm at 1370rpm so I can't see it being turbo lag at all. You can be coming to a roundabout in D (in dynamic) and you notice a gap, deeply press the throttle to accelerate quickly, there will be a second or so of nothing and then it lurches forward, in S it is considerably better but by no means eliminated. My previous car a BMW F30 335D, you saw a gap and it was so easy to exploit it as the response was instant. A friend of mine who has a Golf 7 R talked about a similar experience in his car. It feels like the throttle pedal and the engine/gearbox are not connected, and you are pushing your foot into a mushy freshly baked cake, and only once the cake is properly squished does something actually happen in D. The 335D and although these cars use the same gearbox, it was night and day difference in terms of response. I wanted a M340i as I have always been a BMW man at heart, but for similar spec/mileage it was £7k more expensive than the Audi, so I just could not quantify spending that much more for a badge and a little more power, and I thought with it being a ZF transmission in the Audi it couldn't be that much different. The 335D's throttle response in D for gearbox and Sport for throttle was just great, no lag, the engine and pedal felt connected, not as fast as a good ole cable but not far off. The Audi is leaving me cold, frustrated and annoyed because coming from a car with such instant throttle response the experience is getting soured, as otherwise I am extremely happy with the Audi S4 in comparison to my old 335D, it is faster, sounds WAY better, better handling and the interior is night and day to the F series in terms of build quality, the digital dash is also nicer than the G series M340i IMO. Is there anyone out there with a B9 S4/S5 who has experienced the same issue and is there a fix for this? I have heard of a Pedal Box as my friend with the Golf R was recommended one, however I am a bit sceptical to spend £200+ on something that may not fix the issue, as how would the box be able to change the mapping of the throttle to make it instant? Is it not coded in the ECU to open slowly? I took the car to the dealer this morning and the technician assured me this is the way the throttle is mapped for emissions and there is nothing wrong with the car after testing it. I would highly appreciate any solutions (that don't destroy my Extended Audi Warranty), as other than this sour driving experience I absolutely love the S4, it was a welcome change of pace from the F series BMW and I like everything about the Audi more than my old car, except the driving experience...which is the most important part imo, if I can fix this throttle this really would be the perfect daily for what I paid (just shy of £28k). Inputs would be highly appreciated! Thanks
  20. Hi they normally have Garrett on the outer casting in fact even a recon unit will have that, can you post a picture of that label with the build info, I rather suspect that the tune up that was mentioned was a remap that alone can cause problems depending on the level of mapping also did anyone explain what popped up with the turbo? codes etc as from experience I found any turbo fault throws the EML/Flashing glow plug light. Steve.
  21. Here's what I would do. Revert the mapping so the car can see the EGRs Run it. If light comes on (which it probably will) have it diagnosed and it'll probably end up needing a new EGR and cooler. Accept that if you keep the car for several years, it'll need doing again but when exactly will depend on mileage, driving pattern, fuel quality.
  22. Hello out there I’ve got 20l tdi s,line that had a re map done by previous owner it’s now over fuelling and just failed mot on emissions I don’t need the map on it so any suggestions on how to put standard map back on and where and who to use will be much appreciated 👍
  23. Hi I have the Audi A5 2L Tdi ultra, with exact same fault code. Does anyone know if mapping out/ blanking the EGR valve/cooler will also resolve this issue?
  24. Hi the problem all remaps have is, the person who wrote the software is probably a computer geek with no in depth knowledge of mechanics, the whole thing relies on an ancient equation that for more power you need more air and fuel, the map just adds more fuel as it can't add air as that setting is already set so in an ideal world you would fit a free flow air filter and a free flow exhaust with manifold to gain any extra power with benefits, the problem is no one knows if the new map has cancelled out some of the monitoring functions in the ECU, I think the VAG guy was right and its the over fuelling that is causing your problem, no point in charging off and looking for leaks and a dirty MAF you will be better off back as standard, if you think remaps are wonderful idea why don't Audi sell them as a service item they would make a fortune but no they would rather still build something that is reliable, the other thing is the source of the VAG emissions scandal the ECU programming was so advanced it recognised when the vehicle was on a rolling road and switched its own mapping to bring down the emissions, ask Steve Q what happened when the cars were remaped with a retrofit software, he worked for VAG. Steve.
  25. Hi guys, can anyone recommend a good place to get my 3.0 tdi le mans re mapped in or near Liverpool? Many thanks.
