Thank you. Had the fuse box accessed earlier at side of dash but couldn’t see the relay box!! Audi don’t make things easy to fix yourselves 😂

I have scanned car and no issue, showing no misfires in data log.

Hello Marc, As Cliff says. That indeed was my motive for asking what brand the new thermostat was. In quite recent times I regret to say the reliability of new-out-of-box components has become very, very questionable, and not helped by the increasing use of the term OE which might encourage buyer confidence. Again, the use of once trusted brand names - now owned by licensing companies - adds kudos to products no longer manufactured to anything like the quality of the original brand. Dad/granddad then says ‘that’s a quality brand’ and it aids sales. So don’t take for granted that once respected brand name components will be serviceable, simply because they are new. Thermostats are a key component, and are sometimes difficult to access, so for me, it’s the exception to the rule, and I spend a bit more on one bought at the main dealer. Regards, Gareth.

Considering buying a new A3, what are the weak points.
cliffcoggin replied to mareng's topic in Audi A3 (8Y) Forum
D. Please do us a favour and change to a more human sensible name. DaveF perhaps? The diesel problems you mentioned are not unique to Audi or Mazda. Every modern diesel suffers from attempts to comply with emissions regulations. Some are more successful than others, but all eventually have to contend with DPF faults. See this topic for information about Audi mild hybrid. It is specifically about the A7 but the technology is apparently the same on other models as you will see from other members's contributions. Personally I would not touch one with a barge pole. https://www.audiownersclub.com/forums/topic/24906-alternator-failure-related-to-mild-hybrid-system/#comment-93343 -
Is it noisy? There's cases of humming or ticking noises from the pump:

Very nice. Think I've been past it. -
Thanks Naresh, I would suggest restricted use and very frequent level checking when you do have to use it. Don’t depend on the ‘low coolant ‘ message popping up to remind you to do that. Regards, Gareth.

Hello David, Seems like you have your mA in a twist. Power consumption when the car has fully shut down (possibly in excess of 30 mins after being locked) should be around 50 ish mA, so 1.6 ma must be wrong. My guess is you are talking amp figures here rather than mA. Try disconnecting the alternator output plug - might be discharging through a faulty diode. Regards, Gareth.

thanks -for the welcome -
Welcome Mark, I fear you are about to throw your money away by engaging in this ‘carbon clean’ - a bit like putting on your best designer gear, when you haven’t changed your underpants for a week! If it were mine:- Check how much fuel is in it - hopefully not much - and add 2 gallons of E5 to which you have added a fair dose of Redex. (See this morning’s response to a similar issue with an aging convertible). Get it plugged in and find what codes are showing. It seems you have been told it has service history, but you have not seen the evidence before committing to buy. Bit of a chance taken there, but…. I would certainly keep my ‘carbon clean’ funds as far down in my pocket to render it inaccessible. Please let us know how you get on Mark. Regards, Gareth.

Many thanks Gregg. Now understandable in knowledge of stale fuel. I would suggest you only use E5, and add a fair slosh of Redex to every gallon. Well worth treating it to an oil and filter change using respected branded filters and oil. Kind regards, Gareth.

Still shows as two broken play symbols on mine so just did two screen shots to show what it looked like.

I assume the large wheels will have very low profile tyres, an arrangement that is known to produce a much harsher ride than normal, so it's reasonable to believe that is what has knocked out springs and bearings. Not sure about the drive shafts.

2.0 TDI metallic ticking noise from bottom of engine
Steve Q replied to jc07030's topic in Audi A3 (8V) Forum
I'd get this into a garage asap. Let's hope it's a chain and not the crankshaft etc. -
This link might help with the sloshing https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/624964-Water-sound-behind-dash

I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up or get an auto electrician to take a look.

Still knocking, has been to three garages now, no one seems able to diagnose the issue just want to start swapping out parts which I'm not keen to do as it gets pricey, battery was diagnosed as faulty (replaced and wasn't the original), TPMS sensors seem to have a mind of their own.....TBH is feeling a bit flaky as a vehicle, had multiple BMWs before this and never suffered this many faults this side of 100K
