You won't find defective CV joints with a crowbar. You need to clamp self locking grips onto the drive shaft and rotate it violently to detect any rotational slack. The gearbox needs to be locked by putting into a gear, and the wheels need to be locked either with the brakes or being on the ground while doing the test.

I don't know where I have put the print out. I think I might have binned it by accident. I need to get to the dealers again and get another printout.

A3 Sound Deadening / Insulation (Road Noise)
Steve Q replied to lbr1978's topic in Audi A3 (8Y) Forum
There has been similar cases. Make sure any sound deadening you're planning to fit in the wheel arches is water proof. Otherwise it'll trap moisture and rot the wings from inside out. You'd be best putting it on the bulkhead underneath the dash and footwells. -
Have you had the battery checked? As a failing battery can cause electrical issues. The steering could be a sensor, module or worse case scenario the rack itself.

A3 Sound Deadening / Insulation (Road Noise)
Magnet replied to lbr1978's topic in Audi A3 (8Y) Forum
Welcome Robin, I’m sure there was a thread (a couple of months back?) where someone had insulated an A1 to try to reduce what may have been tyre noise. Worth a search. Regards, Gareth. -

ABT 2012 Front Passenger Wheel Arch
Dannymistretta replied to Dannymistretta's topic in Audi Q5 Club
Thank you -
It doesn't do it when driving along at speeds above about 30 mph, most pronounced when driving slowly, liken manouvering in a supermarket car park, will knock when driving straight or turning (slightly worse when turning) whether on rough roads or smooth. Nothing felt through the steering , I've tried tied the usual CV test of putting on full lock, no noise , there seems to be very little shunt when queuing from the drivetrain.....it seems to be coming from the passenger side front, although its hard to be sure, have jacked it up, got a pry bar in everywhere, got my wife to turn the wheel while I listen with on jack and also when loaded, can't find anything obvious.

Hi All 🙂 Just purchased a 2024 A3 black edition with the 19 inch wheels and getting a fair bit of road noise in the cabin on certain surfaces. Wondered if anybody has had practical experience installing sound deadening / insulation that reduces road noise? Perhaps inside the front wheel arches either on the metal body work or on top off the plastic wheel arch liner itself? (dunno which would make the most difference, if any.) FYI - I have covered the boot in silent coat 2mm and closed cell foam and think that's had a noticeable difference that side of the car. Front wheels seem to be the main culprit now affecting my rather OCD tendencies :-) Before going to the hassle of taking the wheels off and removing the wheel liner, I thought I'd check with folks here as I'm sure I can't be the only one who's thought about doing this! Thanks in advance. Rob.

Any update on this issue ?

And dare I say, the originals don’t look to be the best quality.

Thanks guys. I’ve listed my RS4 on this site, as well as on RS246 (long time member) and Audi-Sport. Will see what interest I get. I am not in a rush to sell it, and it needs to go to an enthusiast as it is absolutely mint. WBAC don’t have good pricing for high performance cars as there is too much risk with them. Motorway I have a bad experience - they give you an indication which you can reject but if you decide to go to ‘auction’ you commit to sell. My VW Up! Got one bid at the reserve and it went - which in hindsight I should have put the reserve higher, but they suggested a low reserve to drum up bidding. My local VW garage bought it and were amazed at the price they paid - I felt the fool… if nothing comes from the forums in the next week or so I’ll put it up on AutoTrader, PistonHeads and maybe eBay. Thanks again. Sam

Hi Gareth, Many thanks for your reply, I got in touch yesterday regarding the mats. Not yet chosen, but am now open minded about the originals, as they are so hard to come by. Best regards Sam.

This could be an issue with the instrument cluster. Might be worth getting an auto electrician to take a look

Alternator failure related to mild hybrid system?
Danygeorge replied to PocketsAintEmptyCuh's topic in Audi A7 Club
Ok. Thats great then. I just take a look on some paperwork because I’m like the second driver, I’ve got the car from a dealership (not Audi) about 4 months ago,and there’s lots of paperwork done at Audi by the first driver but nothing about this alternator but I’ve found an offboard diagnostic information system with lots of electrical faults, couple of papers actually ( I think there are all electrics faults of the car) first fault is like battery 48v(a6,c31)- charging fault all of the papers with those electrical faults are from the 3 dec 2024. Now I’m wondering if the dealership bought the car with this alternator issue and they replaced, because if they done that and they didn’t use an genuine Audi/w part I don’t think Audi will replace an aftermarket at no cost but I think the dealership will need to pay for it anyway if not they can get the car back. I’ll find out on Friday when I’m taking the car to Audi. -

The alternator went at about 35000 miles, whole car died on a roundabout no steering no door locks etc. since replacement of the starter generator no probs in another 10,000 miles. -

Thanks stevey -
Hello everyone I am new on here and to the Audi world this is my first one . I am very happy with the car except for a weird problem!! It is a 2011 A3 8p model. 1.6 petrol. When I get into my car and start up sometimes my dash is illuminated sometimes not .. If I turn the lights on it will illuminate and the dimmer will work just fine but if I turn the lights off the dash stays illuminated but the lights on my window switches go off and heater controls go off as I think they should.. has anyone else have dash illumination issues. Thanks for reading. If it makes sense to anyone. 😄

Hello Sam, I bought a set of bespoke carpet mats for our non-Audi quite a a few years back from Carmats4U ( still operating I believe). You could specify the quality - I think I chose a quality near the top, and they didn’t disappoint. In fact they were transplanted into a newer non-Audi and are still good. As well as choosing the quality, you could also choose the edge binding, and the stitching colour. Please let us know how you get on Sam. Regards, Gareth.

Hi on your year of car just refit it as they normally sort themselves out after a few drive cycles it works out the problem is gone and any lights should go out, Steve. -

Hi 10amp is about as high as you need to go, from memory I have nearly always used the fusebox under the cover on the left end of the dash, check the owners handbook for what fuse does what as you dont want to use an ABS/wipers fuse or anything that if it blows will leave you in poo creek, depending what the spec is of your model there may well be a spare fuse port in the box, thats what I did with my A6, the spare port was in the purple square, test for ignition live with meter. Steve.
