  3. Hi everyone, I am in possession of an B5 Audi A4 2.3 V6 Petrol from 1999. REG T874 AFC. I am hoping to get it into showroom condition for an elderly friend, Geoff. His wife passed away 6 years ago and it has been in the garage ever since. It is in pretty good condition with only 24K miles and a full service history. I have checked the fluids, cam belt ( as best as possible)changed the fuel, used some fogging oil and she started no problem. Geoff is keen to sell it at auction on Bangers and Cash. Not sure if it is their sort of thing or not though. I understand it is a reasonably rare model, and I have not been able to find one for sale!! I was hoping to find some advice here and to tips on this site. Any advice on where I could purchase the following would be much appreciated. Alloy Wheel Centre Caps Front drivers side outside plastic Trim Touch up paint name / code Many thanks in advance, hope you enjoy the the overload of pictures 🙂 regards Turboted (Martin)

  5. Sure. Lots of phone calls to lots of organisations and a smattering of wit.
  6. Welcome Samuel, and sorry to hear of your plight. I take it the c£2,400 inc.VAT for parts must equate to changing the flywheel as well as the other ‘normal’ components - which would make good sense. It wouldn’t surprise me that the dual mass flywheel may well be a main dealer part only, and may account for around £1K of the parts prices, but I would want to confirm that if it were mine. Other clutch parts may (in caps) be main dealer only, but again I would want that confirmed too. Try Parts in Motion website and input to your registration number and search for clutch and see what comes up. Give them a ring if you have any points to clarify. If you have a choice, then the make you want will be LUK. Can’t get availability at P in M? Google search LUK contact number and try to speak with someone in their technical section - but be armed with your car’s VIN number ( in screen and on V5). Ask them about aftermarket availability. I think it’s well worth doing your homework on this. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. If it transpires all parts are main dealer only, then you might get a bit of discount at Audi Parts Direct - part of Mon Motors, previously Cardiff Audi. They should do mail order. Kind regards, Gareth.
  7. Thanks James, glad you are sorted, but no one is any the wiser how this eventually panned out for you, and some of the answers may have been of help to others, who might find themselves in a similar position. Kind regards, Gareth.
  8. Yes, near the cafe! I’m sorted now. Transpires the car was a fleet car for the first 50k of its life and we’ve managed (after much sweat and tears) to trace its history. Thank you all so much for your responses.
  9. Hi, I bought 2019 a4 estate 18 months ago and have just discovered the clutch is slipping. It’s only done 40000 miles so an absolute nightmare and unexpected expense. Tried a few garages who say they can’t help as they can’t locate parts. They say the car is “so new” the cheapest they could find a clutch was £1800 before vat and labour. does that sound right? am I resigned to that price? many thanks for any help.
  10. Ya live and learn magnet...but I got a really really good deal on it..if it lasts a couple of years I'll be happy..was the battery if the stop start working now..what ya reckon mate?
  11. I meant took fuses out and put back in
  12. Just got in the car..the.stop start is working!!!..thtas mad...I took every fuse out and replaced..just nipped out for 10 mins and it's working...lucky for me it shows it was the battery.. let's see if it starts in the morning..if it does..I'll be happy..just need to get the abs going now..any advice?..I'll listen this time before going spending..👍
  13. Yeah..even when its turned on.. mad..works when ya stall the car tho..
  14. As the driver of an electric car that is reliant on a lithium-ion battery for motive power I don't believe Li-ion technology is inherently rubbish, however it does require a sophisticated BMS (battery management system) to ensure safe, reliable, and durable operation. I doubt that the simple charging circuits on a 12 year old car will have that capability, so it seems to me that to fit a 12 volt Li-ion battery to the A3 is both wastefully expensive and a retrograde step in terms of performance. A plain lead-acid battery would do the job adequately.
  15. Hello James, Detail is rather sketchy, so could you please fill in some background detail. Current mileage? Mileage covered to first MOT? Mileage at which the car was last serviced and recorded on the Audi database? Trying to set some logic to this, it would seem that the car was dealer serviced until the warranty expired in 2018, and then - as Cliff suggests. Servicing post 2021? I am not aware of any way you can retrieve any evidence of non-Audi recorded servicing- assuming there aren’t any invoices available to clarify that. Sorry about all the questions James, but is the car being sold locally, and have you actually seen copy of the service record? If you haven’t, then I would be treating any claim to service history as if it doesn’t exist - until you have actually viewed that record. Take it you have examined the on-line MOT history, and the DVLA Vehicle Check to establish when the last V5 was issued - sometimes an indicator of short term ownership. Perhaps you could come back to us James. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Anywhere near to the fantastic cafe in Ewenny?
  16. it was good couple of month ago since having the pads done done easy 600 mile on them. i will try the brake from 60 think first but i do alot of motoway driving so could have done this already with out realising i will try it though. ive just gotta wait for a oil breather pipe to come so i can replace that because that has totally snapped apart in to 2 spots and the only place i can find one is latvia so could be a while will keep you updated on the problem . thanks all
  17. Sorry to reinforce what Stevey Y has said about Lion batteries, and glad that we have a second independent opinion on them. I wouldn’t buy one if it was all I could buy! Sorry to come over as being critical Paul, but you do seem to be acting rather impulsively with this, and it’s costing you. We did give you sound advice to get your old battery tested, and if you had done that and it had been found to be substandard, there would have been ample advice on here on which brands to buy ( and in your case - what not to buy!) and where to buy at most competitive prices.
  18. It only seems to be the vr6 that shows this fault.
  19. Hi what I was trying to point out is your car is petrol and is not fitted with glow plugs, you can't have a valid fault code for that which doesn't exist therefore it suggests its come from a generic scanner which I have often found to be the case, whereas manufacturer specific readers are often far more accurate. Steve.
  20. Yes the 6 coilpacks are early black ones that should have been recalled for the newer grey ones. Anyway, the p1617 code is a glowplug sort circuit to ground fault. It's either coincidence with the other lights or its an emissions fault but not serious enough to put on the emissions light.
  21. Hi yes spend your money on an OBD Eleven reader then you can look at what you want whenever you want on your phone and not become a victim of overcharging garages, you will be able to tell them what the problem is. Steve.
  22. Hi not quite getting this, you mention glow plugs and in the next breath its coil packs? if its petrol it wont have glow plugs thats probably a random code thrown up on your diagnostics. Steve.
  23. Hi My first audi Audi A3 SPORTBACK SPECIAL EDITIONS 2.0 T FSI S Line Special Edition 5dr DSG 140k miles full history absolutely love it £1700 Few bits I need to do fog light cover Redo seats Clips for window blinds and catch for centre console Thanks Jase
  24. Thanks guys. I will probably have to have code check done to see what faults it brings up I think That's about £100 or is there an easier way?.
  25. Right Quit panicking and read through the posters answers, as Rybrook pointed out you need a code reader to put the battery back into sync with the car OBD Eleven is a good choice its reasonable and does the job, you don't need a code as you can use the old one that appears on the scanner just change the last three digits when it accepts it a slide bar comes up that says write slide to the right and it informs the new battery to the ECU, why you bought a Lion battery is beyond me, they are absolute non cheap garbage you can have so much more for a few quid extra, in my lifetime I have had so many problems with this brand I avoid them like covid. Steve.
  26. You need vcds or obd11, let's you select whatever battery you decide to use. Also you'll find it won't fully charge the battery without doing it.
  27. Yeah..even when its turned on.. mad..works when ya stall the car tho..
