  1. Past hour
  2. Thanks Paul, Jason joined and posted on 5th June, but is yet to revisit and come back with any comment. Good, isn’t it? Regards, Gareth.
  3. I have another older 110amp battery. Would it be worth charging that and trying that in its place
  4. So it's a 07 c6 f4 allroad auto. Was hoping that with the attempted jump like you said would at least get the instrument cluster on as it was only a 2lt car the revs were hight but carnt guarantee they were over as i was in the car 20250613_165052_1.mp4 . But it did not. Using a multi meter to test voltage at battery and in engine compartment also from battery to the engine compartment. Iv checked continuity of the earthing from battery to engine block. I checked voltage from battery to engine block and it at 12.6. I tried disconnected the battery module that didn't change anything. Car has been on charge throughout but disconnected for any test then placed bk on charge. Whilst its on charge its only reading 12.7v don't no if that's relevant but got a bigger charger coming 2mrow. I turned the radio off
  5. Shouldn’t be, of course. At what intervals was it serviced in the two years before you bought it, and at what intervals during your ownership - and by an Audi main dealer. Is the dealer/Audi going to seek some form of contribution towards the substantial cost? Regards, Gareth.
  6. Never did come back. Might be worth trying a PM if no response.
  7. yes audi have stripped the engine there were no warnings on the dash.car was running smooth we've had the car 3 yrs & the cars been well looked after so it's a mystery why this has happened.
  8. Thanks Marcin, You may well be right, but it is only an assumption that it is ‘more than the battery’ until the battery has first been properly tested and eliminated as a culprit. This is No.1 test of a series of tests, but we don’t seem to be getting too far. Saying it as I see it, so far, it’s a bit like extracting a sore tooth?
  9. I have the same issue, did you solve the problem?
  10. Thanks Robert, but it would be good if you could answer the questions asked. ‘Crankshaft bearing has failed….’. Um, sounds strange - there are many bearings on the crankshaft. Have they stripped this engine to come up with that diagnosis? Did you have any warning indications/ noises but this failure? This car is not long out of warranty. Have you had it long, have you seen the service history for it if not owned it from new? Regards, Gareth.,
  11. Ouch. That's an expensive repair, and very surprising on a 4 year old car. Has it had a hard life, or the oil levels neglected perhaps?
  12. Not necessarily. Instrument clusters are known to suffer failures which may be unrelated to the starting fault, hence my question about cranking from a jump start, and emphasises Magnet's request for detailed information. So far I think we are left with many possibilties that include: starter motor/wiring, ECM fault, defective battery.
  13. Glad to hear the problem is solved and that you don't need yet another starter motor.
  14. sorry the garage said the crankshaft bearing has failed so new engine needed
  15. Unless I am missing something surely connecting the jump leads would at least illuminate the dash with ignition switched on, even if it did not manage to start the engine. I think maybe this is a bit more than a battery issue. Just my thoughts.
  16. There will be a means of adjusting the intensity of the instrument panel lights - are you sure this hasn’t been set to minimum? Do you have both dip and main beam lights? When you say ‘flash’ do you mean the headlamp flasher doesn’t work? Regards, Gareth.
  17. Welcome Robert, thanks for joining, and sorry to hear about your issue. To help Cliff and I, can you tell us whether the starter motor now cranks the engine over or not? If it does, we take it the engine doesn’t actually start now-? Regards, Gareth,
  18. Today
  19. Hello Grant, Meaningful information and the results of advised tests are dribbling through slowly, but dribbling they are. Important :- Is this car a manual or an automatic? How did you measure the latest battery voltage? Was the engine on the jump start donor car ( what was it?) running at about 2,000 rpm when you attempted to start yours with it. Regards, Gareth.
  20. I replaced the CCM in my '03 A6 C5 1.9TDI with one that had the identical part number a couple of months ago and it was completely plug and play. Your key fobs will need to be reprogrammed however, but it's a really quick and straightforward job if you have two. I posted a guide in the C5 forum that explains it step by step. Hope that helps you mate. Edit I've just noticed the CCM in your avant ends in an N and the saloon in a K, weirdly the one in my saloon is an N, go figure.
  21. Can you ask them whether it was an engine earth cable or the positive feed cable to the starter?
  22. UPDATE!!! the frayed wire was changed completely and seems to have fixed the problem. thank you for everyones help 🙂
  23. haha hard to express emotions with no emojis
  24. Sorry. No it did not crank the engine
  25. That does not answer the question of whether the jump start cranked the engine.
  26. "Engine failure" could mean anything from a broken ignition wire to complete seizure of the engine, and therefore tells us nothing meaningful. I suggest you get the car to a garage to have the problem diagnosed.
  27. So took a battery reading 12.6v then 12.3 with the ignition on. Jump start from donor car did not work/change anything in the dash.
