Boost leak test

Hi guys

My 1.8T B7 idles at about 1200 rpm when engine is hot. Idle is normal after cold start , about 800 rpm. Check engine light is on with error code P0171. Pretty sure is a vacuum leak. I am about to do a boost leak test and the question is if I connect the tester on the intake and block the hose going into the throttle body do I have a enclosed system?  What's the best way to do this test?
