Cleaning Your EGR/Throttle Body

Featured Replies

hello everyone,

Cleaning your Exhaust Re-circulation Valve (EGR) (especially diesels), means removing it and the throttle body off the car. Once cleaned and re-installed back on the car, you might find it runs rough, stalls, revs erratically, has power loss, cuts out etc. What has happened is the ECU has reset the throttle positions when it was disconnected. These settings can not be self-learned by the ECU, instead you have to have the Throttle Position settings re-programmed into the ECU again, so it can control the air-fuel mixture.

There is a software package available called VCDS (sold on EBAY) which runs on Windows OS (computer not phone), this can be used to re-programme the Programmable Throttle Position Sensor for idle, max throttle, and intermediate. The ECU needs to be given these settings again. Its a very easy job.

check out tech club's youtube channel (sorry cant link to it for you) or search "audi throttle body reset" in a search engine.

hope this helps y'all
