Has anyone had a service done on thier car. Mine is on 8k miles and the service light has come on. I was told a service was only required every 2 years or 20k miles?

If you do lots of short journeys then it will seriously reduce the service interval. You will be better off on the fixed 10K service. The variable service is for regular long journeys.

Most likely, you were told the car would be serviced on a Longlife Service basis i.e. the car would run until somewhere around 18k miles or about 18 months - whichever comes first. 

You tell us the mileage the car has covered, but not it’s age - important to determine what service plan you might be on.
