A3 no cluster lights wont start

Hi guys was hoping you guys could help,as title cant get the old girl started,no clock lights when turned on tey to start and cuts off after couple of seconds. After going through old threads,checked boot and footwell for leaks nothing,so i disconnected the instrument panel and battery and sometimes i could get it to start,when driven lights would go off and back on,sent the instrument panel for repair,plugged in and still the same! Left battery disconnected still nothing. Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated.
