Hello Richard,

Really sorry to hear of your very unfortunate accident, but reassured to know that you have survived relatively unscathed.
With regard to the airbags not having deployed in this accident, to me, points to something being wrong in your particular car’s SRS system, rather than as a result of poor build design by Audi.
Of course, we cannot comment on why the airbags didn’t deploy in this case, and I think you would need to have the car inspected by accident specialists to determine why.
Just wondering how long have you owned this car, what you know of its history, whether the SRS system light has alway come on when you switch the ignition on (as of course it should do) and then goes out within about 30 seconds - again as it should do.
These two functions are critical, as the car monitors the full system to unsure that it is operational when needed.
Perhaps you could let us know Richard.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

why  no airbags   gone  off   with  the  state  that  crash    ????  hope all is ok   kev

Hi either the SRS has an existing fault in which case as Magnet suggested would have meant that the airbag light was on permanently before the accident or the car has had an accident in the past and some clever clogs has put resistance diodes on the wiring as its cheaper than buying airbags, the diodes make the system  think that when it is running through its check cycle that all is well as its getting the correct resistance signal from the diode regardless of the bag being inoperative.

BMW tried to get round this a few years ago as cars that were crashed were appearing with no airbag deployment due to being diode equipped so they introduced  a rather clever random voltage spike into the SRS check cycle with would blow the cheap diode and produce a light, under normal circumstances when all was in order the spike in voltage would not affect the bag units as they were designed to allow for this spike and carry on working as intended.

Steve.

Hello Richard,

We are wondering how you are getting on, and if anyone your end has been able to throw some light on why the airbags didn’t deploy.

Kind regards,

Gareth.
