SQ5 Tailgate will not fully open

Today the tailgate on my 2016 SQ5 began misbehaving. When I open it with either the tailgate button, key fob or switch on the driver door it only opens about 12 inches. I can manually open it the rest of the way (there is some resistance). The buttons all close the tailgate but it closes much more quickly than before. Any ideas?

Sounds like it might have got confused and thinks that is as far as you want it open.

Might be worth opening it all the way up manually and resetting its opening position.
