Hi I have just in past week bought an Audi a4 avant it has power tailgate all was well until today boot opens on power from key fob and inside car at button but will not close,is there anything I’m missing or is the button on tailgate a problem with failure Jason 

Hi Jason. I think what you describe is normal. Closing power gate is only done via the button on the tailgate. My own 2017 A4 has always operated that way.

Hi mick many thanks for getting back with reply yes it just doesn’t close when I press button I have to force it down then it closes itself maybe a fault in button?

Did you find a resolve for your tailgate closing problem as I have the same problem, it opens fine from key and drivers door but the close botton on the tailgate does not work and have to close as you described. Thanks

Hi its the button failed, easy to replace but the only way to get it to close automatically  is to use VCDS which will program it to shut from the door switch only.
