EGR Valve Pipe Assistance Required

Hi all,

 

The initial job I set out to do was replace my leaky oil cooler. This is complete but I have removed the EGR valve pipe and cannot remember which way the cover plate sat which is held on by 2 screws. 
 

One side is an open rectangle, can anyone advise which way this should be facing? I have attached photos.

usually the assumption is that some kind of marking is on the plate

 

can you post a photo of the front and back?
