I have a 2020 A4 Avant 2.0 TDi 35

It's at my local main dealer for it's MOT today and on the email I received after checking it in this morning I noticed it says this:

Planned work:

Labours

Carry out recall on 23EC W-Software update for engine control unit

I've done a Google search for this update and all I could find was a German forum which says it's something to do with AdBlue (see below)

https://www-motor--talk-de.translate.goog/forum/update-23ec-wofuer-genau-ist-es-t7845165.html?_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=sc

Has anyone already had this done or know anything about it? Should I be worried?!

Hi like one of the posts on that site said once done it is irretrievably there, it might have been an idea to have posted a couple of days ago, personally I have never had any success with any Audi problem curing update, I have a theory that they are trying hard to limit the lifespan of the later diesel models to try and upgrade the possibility of electric car sales as they just are not selling, the other day I saw an 2022 Etron GT for sale second hand 36k on the clock £40,000, makes you wonder, what price was that new they seem to be a four wheeled Stockmarket crash.

Trouble is I had no idea this software update even existed until I read the email I received after I'd got home from dropping it off this morning 😐

The lack of information on-line suggests that this is a relatively new thing and not being mechanically minded I wouldn't know the implications of telling them not to do it anyway, hence why I posted on here as soon as I read the email.

Re your last point nothing would surprise me but there's zero chance Audi or anyone else will be flogging me an electric car any time soon.

Hi the only thing to do now is suck it and see what happens, if you only use a quality adblue with an anti crystallisation additive you may well be all fine and dandy, did not realise how time sensitive your request was, the bit you researched was worrying from the point of view that it mentioned higher cat/dpf temperatures, this can be combated by using a fuel additive such as Dipetane which is a hydrocarbon based additive and makes the soot particles smaller and allows them to be burnt at a lower temperature, it also absorbs any water in the diesel and burns that as well, google it, it has many good reviews and is made in Ireland where some fuel suppliers already have it added to their fuel.

Would it say that on the container? I've never had a car that uses Ad Blue before so have just been buying 20ltr containers from my local independent garage and chucking them in it. Is there a certain make of Ad Blue I'd be better off using?

I'll have a google of Dipetane too 👍

Hopefully it will be fine, if not I do have an Audi extended warranty so if something does go wrong as a result of this update I assume I'd be covered under that.

Hi I can thoroughly endorse the Yara brand of adblue this is also available in good ole Halfords it is their own brand but is made by Yara which is one of the purest adblue on the market, I have been using it for a number of years with no problems, adblue is not pigs urine but a crystallised fertiliser that when mixed with water has the same effect in converting Nox1 particles [very nasty] in to Nox2 which is inert.
