Hi all,

I have just collected a 22 reg Q5 Sportback 40 in the S Line trim from an Audi main dealer under the Audi-approved used scheme.
Overall I am very happy with the car, however, I have noticed a slight rubbing noise from the front wheel area and on further inspection it looks like the pads are very worn. I will do a closer inspection later today. The car has only covered 160 miles since collection

Would anyone happen to know what the minimum remaining pad / maximum allowable wear is while inspecting during the 145 point check under the Audi-approved used scheme..

The dealer is quite a distance away so popping in is not really an option unless I can verify that there is an issue.

Welcome Jim, and thanks for joining.

Shall we start with the simple solution first:- 

Since you have bought it remotely and it’s not practical to return it to the Audi dealership you bought it from, does your warranty allow you to take it to a convenient-to-you dealership? I would expect it to. 
You obviously first have to measure the minimum remaining pad thickness on the most worn pad, and to do that properly, the road wheels will need to be removed. If you or anyone else does that without the authority of the selling dealership, then it could affect your warranty. 
If it were mine:- e-mail the dealer who sold it to you, and outline your concerns, and enquire whether you can book it in at a dealership closer to you. In anticipation that any dealer may not be able to accept it pre Christmas, and in respect you are dealing with brakes, ask them for agreement to get it inspected by a garage of your choice.

p.s. Min. thickness on inspection? Not sure, but would expect below around 4mm remaining would justify replacement.

Your Q5 will be fitted with a low brake pad warning system,

that lights up in the dashboard when the pads are low/req changing,

if this light is not on, it could be a partly seized caliper perhaps.

causing the rubbing noise. not letting the pads release properly.

As suggested i am in contact with the dealer and am awaiting a reply from the service department and will post the outcome as soon as I have received .

Hi Jim,

If the car was mine, I would jack the front wheels clear of the ground, one at

a time, and then, get someone to sit in the car and press the brake off and on, whilst

you turned the wheels, this would let you see if a caliper was sticking, and also 

would let you have a better look at the brake pad thickness.

p.s. you haven't mentioned  if the low pad warning light is on or not.
