Help With Transmission Splash Shield Rear Retainer Clips

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I purchased a 2023 Audi A4 from the dealership with 26k, and I ended up belatedly realizing it came with the following issue:

  • The transmission splash shield is missing. I purchased a new one on ebay, and I found screws that will work for all holes except the rearmost 2 that actually attach to the transmission. The hole is very large for these two, and I'm having trouble finding expanding clips that are big enough to expand into this hole, and also cover the diameter on the shield itself. I found a 60-pack retainer clip kit at Autozone that has 2 in it that should work, but the whole kit is 30 bucks, and I'm not 100% sure they'll work so I held off. According to the online OEM shops, This is the rivet I need. However, I can see from the image that this is way to small.

I was hoping someone could post a picture of the undercarriage showing how these two holes are fastened. I feel like I'm missing something here, because the holes are just too large on the transmission.

There was some other issues also, but I'll save those for another post (dealership screwed me on this one. My fault for not being available to inspect the car myself. Can't trust people it seems).

Thanks!

Them holes have very large plastic clips that go  thru the above tray and the mid section tray, they are reusable

Thanks for the response. It just didn't look that big in the picture, but I'm going to go ahead and order a few. However, could you explain what #18 is in this diagram?

Hey thanks again for posting. So, I did order those exact clips. But they are still too small to securely fill the huge holes on the bottom of my tranny....

I went ahead and installed the splash shield because all of the screws hold the shield in place pretty tight, but these fasteners are loose and pretty much just flop around in there. They're doing pretty much nothing to secure anything right now lol.

My question is, when you had yours out, was there something mounted to the tranny, like #18 in this diagram maybe, that these fasteners went into? There's nothing there on my car, it's just two giant holes. I can't find this #18 part anywhere on any Audi OEM parts sites either.

I have another tray further back instead of 18, the clips push thru both trays into what I would imagine was the gearbox carrier as wasn’t paying much attention. Next time I’m underneath it il have a look for you

Oh wow that's definitely not there on mine. Maybe the 2023 model is slightly different? So, I wonder what actually fastens whatever it is I'm missing to this thing? It's just two huge hole so I'm scratching my head over this.

A picture of this area of the undercarriage next time you're down there would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Next time I have it up in the air I will take a few photos, mine is just FWD so if yours is a Quattro that might make a difference

Ohhh. Yes, mine is an S-Line Quattro. Still, would like to check it out. Thanks!

Found a few pictures that might identify, my car is a ultra so has extra features to reduce aerodynamic drag, first picture is a ultra and second picture is of standard under trays IMG_3293.thumb.png.1a4d115fe0858200ced0a794a615d976.png
