Permanent battery charger

Featured Replies

Hi experts.

I’m wondering if there is some sort of easy battery trickle charger as I don’t do too many regular miles. Recently an RAC man attending a friends car (flat battery) recommended the below charger which he said gets permanently attached to the battery leaving a short trailing easy link cable which attaches to a 13 amp extension via an easy link. I hope that nearly explains how I understood it 😵‍💫

could somebody look it over and maybe confirm or laugh it away for me. many thx  pen

CTEK 40-106 CT5 Start/Stop, Battery Charger 12 V, Trickle Charger, Intelligent Charger

"Intelligent" chargers are a good choice in that they do not over charge the battery. I have not heard of that particular brand, but if it comes recommended go ahead and get it. I use something similar once a month in the winter.

I'd be a little uneasy, perhaps irrationally, about having one permanently attached.

Ctek have a very good reputation. From my Skyline days a lot of owners used to have them connected up for the show cars.

I've been using the NoCo Genius 10 on my previous Mondeo and now on the Q5. As standard it comes with croc-clips, but you can get an eyelet connector (or unscrew the croc clips) which can be bolted to the battery permanently and then you just plug in the NoCo charger when you need it.

Thx all.  I’ve now ordered and received this item via Amazon. It looks well put together and will suit my needs. I really like the easy fit attachment which remains on the battery especially as my battery is so well installed. Hopefully I’m ahead of the game - flat battery - 🤪.  👍

In some Scandinavian countries they have a socket in the front bumpers so they can have them plugged in easily to keep a cabin heater running due to the outside temperatures so always worth investigating

Wow I like that idea 👍
