Swirl Flaps

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've received an error code with the swirl flaps on the intake manifold.

I've taken the inlet manifold off and given it a good clean, including the carbon deposits behind the valves whilst I'm there. The vacuum control valve seems to be working fine (it holds a vacuum when I suck the pipe). To get the assembly as clean as possible does anyone know how I remove the rod that operates the flaps? As i was going to clean that too.

Whikst it's removed is there anything I ought to replace, like any worn bushes?

I've removed the flaps by unbolting them to clean them and it occurred to me, why dont I just remove them permanently leaving the rod and vacuum control valve in situ. to sort the issue and remove the error code. Or is it not that simple?

When i search this online the flap assembly is completely different.

Chris

Try looking for a delete kit it holds the flaps in the right position so they never move, no more lights.

Hi Steve,

The delete kits all seem to be suited to a different type of assembly with billet inserts and oil cap. These won't work for my car I don't think as each flap is bolted using two screws into the rotating shaft.

Presumably I wouldnt need a delete kit though, if I can simply unbolt the flaps from the rotating shaft from within thd inlet manifold. All that would be left is the shaft, sensor and vacuum control valve.

So, these are the flaps cleaned up. They come up new.

If I'm getting a swirl flaps error I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time cleaning and putting them back in though when I could leave them out - not sure if not putting them back in with throw up an error though.
