Diffuser spray pain

Featured Replies

Hi guys

just a quick one, looking to spray paint my rear diffuser myself over the weekend, gloss black, any recommendations or advice on which brand paint spray to use, there’s loads out there ,any recommendations would be appreciated…

Thanks

Hello Saj,

Don’t expect a ‘true’ black colour from any spray can, they will always turn out to be slightly on the brown side. If you are attempting to match to a black car, you will need to get a can mixed to the colour of your car - a match to the listed colour code.
As with all spraying - detailed preparation is king.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Tbf I’m not matching the car colour as car is Navarra blue just the diffuser is grey and want it black instead as other bits are black so any Gloss black would probably do just want a brand that works well…

Brands? Equally important is the actual nozzle design.
If it has a simple pin hole hole rather than a slotted jet, then you are not going to get a good spray pattern out of it. You could try Simoniz - think they have a slotted nozzle. What preparation have you done?

I’m starting tomorrow mate , will mask off all around the area, going to give it a sand down to get a good key, then prime it , then I can get the gloss spray on it, weather decent this weekend so 🤞. I’ll pop over Halfords shortly see what they have.

Don’t  forget your Panel prep and adhesion promotor aerosols 👍

halfords own aerosols aren't too bad so long as you are  not going for factory paint colour match.
It’s also worth investing in a 2 pack clear coat though it’s unlikely you’ll pick that up from halfords.

Thanks guys, I went to  GSF and purchased some primer and Gloss Spray. I’ve already got some clear lacquer. Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow lol.

I’ve not had a look yet but my friend has a body shop so I’ll ask him, see what he says, any advice what to use ?

Hello Saj,

Sorry to say it as I see it, but from your answers I don’t feel you are currently informed enough to end up with a favourable and lasting finish.

Apologies, but if your friend has a bodyshop, why don’t you just entrust this job to him, but observe what he does so that you gain some experience of the correct procedure?

Ha ha I’ve been to see him , he’s so busy but I’ve managed to get everything I need off him, I’m pretty handy with stuff like this so I should be fine. Thanks for all the help guys 👍🏻

Can’t wait to see the pics 😁

All done in stages, happy with the result. Hardest part was taking the diffuser off, fitting back on easy !!!
