Moving to an A3 PHEV from diesel

I've got a 2.0 8y diesel and was wondering how they compare with the latest A3 PHEV versions.

Any one had experience of moving to plug in hybrid from the diesel version? 

I'd be interested to know their thoughts and if people should suggest a jump to EV is the way instead (if so, any ideas as to what?_

My regular commute is 20 miles, so 40 miles round trip

I do trips of about 300 miles about once a week though and wondered if the PHEV would be.a pain to drive on longer trips

How do they compare handling wise
