Stop/Start issues

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I’m new on here and new to Audi. I’ve recently bought a 2016 2.0 TDI A5 and everything is really good apart from getting a white A with a slash regarding the stop/start (and also because its the coupe the water drip when I open the window with the smallest bit of dew on the roof ha) . I’m assuming this is a battery issue. If I replaced with a AGM or EFB would this get rid of the warning message or would it also need a a reset of the computer system or similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers

Have you had it plugged in for fault codes before you start replacing things.

Erase them and see what returns.

The usual, but not the only, cause of stop/start problems is a dying battery. A professional battery test, not a simple voltage test with a multimeter, carried out at no charge by suitably equipped garages will reveal any defects. If a new battery is needed ensure it is coded to the car.

Welcome Peter,

Or - cheaper alternative - nip it around to one of Halfords Stores and get the battery  efficiency checked.

If they do assess it as being substandard, then it’s highly likely that it would be to your wallet’s advantage to return to the forum for some recommendation for alternative suppliers.
Any new battery will need to be coded in.

Just let us know if we can help further.

Regards,

Gareth.
p.s.  Any good reason why you want the engineeringly averse S/S system working?

No I’m not even planning on using it it’s just the pedantic side of me wanting to get rid of the warning when I start it up. Thanks everyone I will get the battery checked this week.

cheers

Interesting Peter, since if you don’t intend using the s/s system then you are likely going to have to resort to switching it off for every journey. When you do, the light will be on!
Please let us know how you get off with the battery test.
