Regen issues

Featured Replies

So I recently had stalling at junctions issues.vcds said all the injector deviations were okay, my specified and actual fuel rail pressure was okay, no codes listed. Changed the tank pump and filter - didn't work. Changed the fuel regulator and that has stopped the stalling but the car is doing regens constantly every drive and down in power. Plugged in vcds soot under 11g , ash/oil 0.9L. no dpf lights but temp goes to 90 from it's usual 84 odd and the fuel economy drops to about 38mpg which I assume is the regen happening. I only drive motorway miles so now I'm thinking there is something else underlying wrong that was showing up a weak rather than failed fuel regulator which then caused my stall issues. Has anyone had anything like this before or any hints on what next to look at.

Is the car using more oil? On 2008, luckily you have dipstick.

If you had access to VCDS, then when the car was stalling, what codes (if any) were triggered?

Constant regents and poor fuel economy could be back to the DPF and the pressure sensor readings. Not suggesting it’s faulty, but if there was a code, then this is informative. The DPF has finite life, so cleaning could be an option.

I’d also check out EGR. Notorious for blocking.

Lastly, I’ve used Forte diesel conditioner on cars where emissions have crept up. Add to a quarter tank and drive it hard. Replace fuel filter afterwards. Mann parts are OE.

Finally found the two issues that were causing my problems 🤦🏻

Bit the bullet and bought a smoke tester on eBay.

Two vac leaks, one was the brake booster (the check valve was also passing) and the other was the egr cooler solenoid. So I assume with the leak the egr solenoid wasn't opening the bypass door to allow the car to regen, so the car was constantly stuck trying to regen.

Hopefully this helps anyone else with this issue.
