defective four wheel drive Audi Q5 2019 diesel

Featured Replies

Hi all

Audi Q5 s line 40fsi diesel 2019

The message four wheel drive fault-you can continue to drive-take to workshop has come up on the dashboard, so i had an OBD check done by my mechanic and its coming up as code C05ED00 which states a problem specfically with the AWD clutch 'B' stuck engaged linked to the J 492 control module and a worn shift fork in the rear diff and require specialised repair with differential disassembly and replacment of faulty shift fork with an audi repair kit. Hes looking into the costing for me but i'm a little cheesed off because the car as only done 32000 miles and surley this shouldn't happen on a car with this low milage.

Not sure what the outcome will be and whether my mecanic will be able to fix this or is it a job for Audi?. Hope not and with any luck there may hopefully be a simple solution

Is this something that is common and have any of you kind people out there heard of this before-sounds expensive to me🙁

Hope this info is of use to you and any information will be gratefully received and all replies will be acknowedged

Thank you

Bill

I don't know the specifics of yours, but the four wheel drive system in general has a reputation for low durability and very expensive repair. I hope your mechanic can repair it, as it will cost more at an Audi dealer.

Hi I would think your garage should be able to fix this or any specialist in your area it is a known fault with Audi models across the range as their cost cutting activities come to light, use inferior parts that we know will get us out of the warranty period and then sell a repair kit which is normally uprated to what it should have been in the first place, this is a real money spinner for them just look at the repair kit prices for RS4 camshafts and follower kits.

To be honest I'm not aware of low reliability on 4WD quattro system, quite the contrary. In normal usage, rear diffs are good for 100k miles plus before treating them to a gear oil change. I started to think, was it a Haldex related thing, as this is common fault on Q3, S3, if not serviced? Quick scan - finds a couple of links. There's a control solenoid that engages the rear diff. Now it got me thinking - is this Quattro Ultra, but I don't think it is, as that apparently works on revised central lock differentia, so basically 2WD majority of time unless the wheel loses traction and system engages 4WD? I suspect real reason is that anything that's mechanical and engages and disengages needs to be fit for purpose. The teeth or ridges on the clutch fork don't look up to the job, possibly not hardened sufficiently.

Shows the solenoid and how it works: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1317144666299348

Shows the read diff disassembled, and wear on shift fork. I wonder if Audi have revised this part - as it flags up a few times?
