Iced up windows!

Featured Replies

So I came across something new to me on this very cold and icy morning. As my A5 door windows are frameless, I couldn't actually open my drivers door this morning as the window couldn't open a touch like it does normally to allow you to open the door.

Had I forced it, it's it possible that I could have broken the glass? What about closing door with window fully up? I've only owned the car 6 days so haven't come across this before!

Any tips for this no doubt regular winter occurrence to help prevent the window from icing up? I don't like using deicer but perhaps that's the only option other than a cover?

Thanks

Paul

Not sure. I assume there's a window regulator that adjusts the window. My wife has a BMW i3, similar in the respect that the window drops on opening, then rises on closing. Wash the window and apply Rain-X or similar onvthe inside. On the rubber, apply the very lightest smear of red grease. That should break any ice contact and frozen windows. Re-apply every couple of weeks until we're out of this cold snap.

Thanks very much.  A lad at work has the same car and he was panicking this morning cos he hadn't said anything to me about the "pitfalls" in winter! Lol

I had this on my TT many times - rightly or wrongly I just used to slam it shut and it was always fine - the rubber seals will give way before the glass*

*not responsible for any broken glass should you take my advice and it goes wrong :')
