Hello, my first post. Is this the norm

Featured Replies

I have an Audi S1 on a 15 plate which I have owned for 5 years,  its regularly serviced. My electric water pump has gone, so on Thursday of this coming week is being replaced at a cost of £1,300,  oh and £57.00 to diagnose the fault. They want the car for 2 days, saying its going to take "10" hours. Hmm. Last month. I had to replace the oil cover  sump and my timing chain cover that got damaged when my timing chain got replaced on, I think it was 109,000 2 years ago. That cost me £1,765. And that took 3 days. Are garages thinking we're cash cows?. In August last year a hose went by the firewall, £1,400.00. I love my car. I do realise the age and things will go wrong, but seriously...

Welcome Malcolm and sorry to hear of your bad experiences.

When you say ‘… they (garage)….’ What sort of garage is this - main dealer, independent specialist, local garage etc?
Regards,

Gareth.

Morning Gareth, there just garages. The nearest Audi dealership is like a 40 minute drive from me. What made me choose the one last month he used to work for Aston Martin and Formula 2 cars. But was like in shock when he said that will be £1,765, instead of the £1,500 I had budgeted for. Then the electric pump. He said thats going to be expensive. I am like...being semi retired not again. Sure I can afford it but still. It makes me wonder "What" next?

I used once on my A5 coupe deisel 3.0. And the bill was eye opening However I might contact them and the Audi dealership in Milton Keynes and see what they charge.

Thank you for replying

Malcolm

Audi main dealer will be £200+ per hour and VCDS scan usually £150 before they even get a spanner out. The part I think is 06L121111P which for genuine Audi is in region of £530 for 2.0 TFSI engine.

Thank you so much. I got a phone call from Deutch Technic based in Wolverton MK, who are going to do it way cheaper. And they can do it in a day rather than hold onto my car for 2 days, its booked in for next Friday.

If I had not reached out to this group I would have blindly used the garage thinking they were giving me a good deal. NOT as it turns out.

Malcolm
