New member, new A5, struggling with oil level meter!

Hi, I've just bought myself a new A5 (2009 2.0 TFSI Quattro Sport), which I am absolutely delighted with (quite an upgrade from my 2001 A6 Avant 1.8T SE)!

I'm struggling with being able the check the oil level though, so thought I'd see if anyone else has experienced this issue. There's a good chance I'm doing something stupid, so please be gentle....

As far as I can see, there is no dispstick. I've looked long and hard and I'm sure there isn't one in there, especially in the place that the diagram in the manual indicates it will be if there is one. So I've looked in the car settings in the MMI display and sure enough there is an Oil Level item in the menu. However when I go in to it, it absolutely will not show me the oil level.

First I followed the instructions in the manual; ran the engine for a bit, switched off, waited 2 mins, then went in to the menu to view the oil level. A message came up saying 'switch on ignition to configure this option' (or words to that effect). If I try to go in to the oil level with the ignition switched on then the Oil Level option is greyed out and when I go in, it says 'no information is currently available for this setting' (or words to that effect). I've tried it several times now after running the engine for different lengths of time. Same with bonnet open or closed.

Has anyone had a similar issue, or know what to do? Any advice great fully received!

Cheers

Dan

I'll post this update in case anyone with a similar issue in future does a search on the forum. I tried something different just now. We pulled up, I let the engine idle for a few seconds then went into the oil level display with the engine still running and the oil level came up. It said OK, although it was a couple of bars down so I'll top up before heading out tomorrow. Nothing in the manual or that I've read online suggests you can or should check the oil level while the engine idles, but it's the only way it will work for me and it said it was OK, so hey ho.
