A4 B8 Saloon and Avant parts compatibility

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

Sad day. Last night damaged my daily.

I'm now looking for a new drivers side rear door but can find only from the estate version.

Does anyone know if they're compatible ?

Sorry to hear this what happened? Post some photos up.

I would suspect they're different but I can't be 100% certain. I think back on the B6 they were the same not sure on the B8 though.

That's before and after the polish. Couldn't find a good service around me for two days so started it myself. Today will try to pull the door back and from then I think some body filler and re-paint would do the trick. I don't want to swap doors yet but I'm still searching for the right one just in case I mess it up.

Another question: Got an entire half-leather half-suede interior dirt cheap on ebay. Just changed them and look spot on but they've got two additional plugs-red and green for the electric adjustment and heating. Unfortunately I don't have the sockets ready to plug these in, but would be nice to have them.

Do you know if these cables can be found and plug-in wired or it's too much effort?

Amazing what a difference polishing makes! As you say if you swap the door there won't be much noticeable damage left!

With regards to the seats they look great. When you say electric adjustment - what part is electric and how are you adjusting them now?

I would think the electric seats would be easier to wire up than the heated part as you will likely need the switches and relays etc for the heated seats and it won't be that simple.

There's an electric 4 way joystick on the side of each seat but they also have levers so you can do everything manually anyway.

Here is a photo of B7. The loom and sockets look exactly the same although on B8 the box is square, not rectangular but this is irrelevant. I've had only Yellow and Black ,where Black is a seat belt sensor and yellow is an air bag control. This leaves me with two extra plugs Red - for position and lumbar support and Green for the heaters. I can buy a control unit for £ 35-50 but doesn't bother me because can always sell mine after that. The question is if somebody sells the actual harness so I can plug the control to the seat plug ? And would I need to do any additional coding, although common sense tells me that it's just an on and off switch so maybe no ? Maybe my best bet would be to contact a breaker and ask for a price of the control unit plus the harness ?

The 4 way joystick could just be electric lumbar? Usually they don't have manual and electric adjustment for the seat itself it's usually one or the other.
