Exhaust rattle

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I've noticed a bit of a rattle when accelerating from low revs. it disappears when revs increase and I can only hear it when the window is down (but it is noticeable). The rattle isn't there when I'm in neutral - its only when accelerating.

I'm no mechanic but I would guess its exhaust. has anyone had anything similar?

Hi Carl,

The easiest way to determine whether it is the exhaust is to drop into an exhaust centre and ask them to put it on a ramp and move the exhaust around on its mountings and thump the cat / silencers to hear for rattling of broken catalyst or baffles. Check also for loose heat shields whilst under the car.

At least then you can eliminate the exhaust...look also at how much play there are in the engine mountings as if these are soft, you would get a lot of movement on the engine under acceleration.

Hope this helps to start with?  Regards,  Trevor - Admin
