Annoying front end tap in wheel / joints area.

Featured Replies

Hi,

Let me start with saying I am new to this site ( Just Signed up ), so I apologise if this subject has been dealt with already.

I have an Audi A4 S Line ( B7 ) and it has a really annoying tapping coming for the both front Wheel / Joint area of my car. These seams to be a common fault as I have searched on line, but no one seams to have a definite solution. I have have changed all of the joints which needed changing and even had new pads and discs fitted, but the noise is just getting gradually worse. It is now embarrassing to drive. if any of you know of the solution, please let me know.

Saturday, I changed the rubber boots that the caliper guide pins slide on, as a mechanic I met suggested that's what it could be. I also cleaned all 10 years of crap from all  the areas that the pads slide across and greased everything back up, but it made no difference. I fact it has probably made it worse, now everything is clean and moving more freely. I did notice there is a retaining spring misses off of the outer side of the caliper. I will be getting & fitting as soon as I can get back down to Audi.

Hi Kevin...welcome to the Forum!

I would definitely start with replacing the missing spring and see how you get on but otherwise it sounds like the anti-roll bar links (see link for details)

Let us know how you get on

Cheers   Trevor
