Hi

my dads 2002 A4 cabriolets roof has stopped working. It started when he was picking my boy up from school and he rapidly presses the button for the roof going up and down which made it stick half way. We manually put it up but then would only open part way. You could hear the motor but that's it.

later from that my dad heard a humming coming from the dash, his neighbour came round and they cut the wire which joins the glove box door to the car, the noise stopped but he lost central locking and can't open the boot even with the key. 

He dropped the car to me, I fixed the cable he cut but central locking still doesn't work? Any ideas? I don't know much about the wiring, the only car I've worked on is my capri😳

It sounds like the switch is holding down the relay, which in turn may have blown the central locking fuse...which is probably where I would start and also to replace the roof switch also.
