VAG emission recall (Ea189) info/issues

Just thought I would post some links to recent motoring press articles with regard to the emissions recall. Various issues are occurring to vehicles after the update has been completed.

If you have an affected vehicle then in my opinion I would not have the emissions recall done. Especially if your car is remapped or modified.

Also a lot of cars that go in for recalls are being flagged up with egr/egr cooler issues which have to be fixed before the recall can be carried out. This can cost over £1000 to fix!

I speak from experience as I worked as a service adviser at Volkswagen.

Also the recall/update is NOT a legal requirement and does not effect your vehicle tax.

I hope this is useful for some of you :)

Cheers

steve

my car is on the recall list and is NOT having it done!

if it was a legal requirement i'd have had it done before the remap and EGR/DPF delete

Very useful and informative information. I'm sure there is plenty of food for thought there for anyone considering reacting to this recall, and many thanks to you Steve.

To the administrators:-

Is it worth moving this to the Recalls section? I would have thought so to ensure this information gets to where it is needed.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

p.s. Just a thought :- A VAG dealer takes a car in in part exchange which is due for a recall. What do they do with it? Trade it out, even though it would be retail age stock? Or do they just not subject it to the recall?

Your welcome Gareth :)

Oops! you have a very good point, I should have put it in the recall action in the first place! ;)

i believe it is the onus on the new owner to sort it

cheers
