Well done Bradley. I like the reply. This car has cable brakes, but it's "advanced" and has brakes on all four wheels, and not just two, would you believe! No hydraulics here, and certainly no ABS and above all no fault codes! Great. Driving it is a combination of forward thought, evasion and good luck. Maintenance is just that, and consists of strip and repair, rather than bolt-off-bolt-on replacement, which to a large extent is far easier than depending on codes to indentify faults, which can turn out to be "affect" codes rather than "cause" codes, which can adversely affect the wallet! So, just done a quick search on the forum for biodiesel and nothing came back! surprising really. didn't search for veg oil but not sure what age of motors people on here run! Maybe i'll be the first on here running it? If there's any interest i can keep this thread going with progress/updates, let me know. the thing is currently on diesel which is killing me. i have run bio fuels on various cars over the last few years: Passat PD130 - bio 20k Astra 1.9 - bio 12k, killed it (DPF)! BMW 530d - 25k bio Seat Leon 1.9 - 5k on veg (piece of crap!) Nissan Terrano - 14k on veg So clearly i can;t wait to get the Audi on it.

I really doubt if the original parcel shelf design was flawed. It is after all just a bit of pressed "material" with a bit of string attached. I think more likely it's just gross stupidity on behalf of Audi, who can't be bothered to keep something like a particular screw as a separate item.

can you change the stop start to be off by default and the button switches it on until you either turn it off or re-start? maybe using vag-com? i hate it to be honest so would welcome such a change

hmm, you could be lucky and the petrol has just agitated some crud in the tank, blocked your filter again. i'd try replacing it again just in case. it is possible that the seals in the fuel pump have warped/perished with petrol. there is a fantastic guy in the north, diesel bob. he can diagnose, repair, etc. diesel pump/injectors/etc. and is very reasonably priced. i found the diesel specialists local to me (midlands) to be really expensive for high pressure (common rail) diagnostics and repairs. for the record, a small amount of petrol (say 10%) in your tank will not do any damage, in soem cold countries they add it as standard to stop the fuel gelling. but pure petrol will cause damage.

Put 25 litres of petrol in a brand new diesel Astra. Ran it a mile to the nearest Vauxhall dealers where it juddered to a stop on the forecourt. They drained and cleaned the system and was OK after a couple of hours of rough running. Lucky really I suppose as it was the wifes company car so wasnt overly concerned. When I think I could have caused a lot of damage just by starting it up in the first place. I did put about 5 litres of diesel in an E reg Vauxhall Cavalier once abpout 20 years ago. I just topped up with petrol. It actually felt that it ran better. It felt torquier. The engines were not such finely developed lumps back then and could take minor issues like that I suppose.

Hello James, Glad your issue is sort of fixed. You don't tell us whether your car is petrol or diesel - it would be a help to know- although I am suspecting diesel. As far as I can gather Audi do not, or at latest did not, have a specified mileage/time recommendation for changing fuel filters on their petrol cars. Things may have changed in very recent times, and I would be surprised if this ever applied to Diesel engined cars. However, I would agree with Bradley when he says a fuel filter change was reasonably overdue, but it may be useful to know that the family owned from new petrol A3 did not see a fuel filter change until 100K with no ill effects. Not overlooked, but assumed it had been changed during the main dealer-only servicing. Not so! Surely VAG must have an interval for diesels - we hope. Back to petrol and fuel filter changes, we had a Volvo C70 2 litre convertible a few years back and that was the most lethargic vehicle ever owned. Armchair comfort - and performance!. Again full main dealer service history and only 58k miles at the time. Changed the fiuel filter as a policy change and it actually noticeable picked its skirt up a bit, not much but very noticeable. This was the only experience until then of a fuel filter actually affecting performance - apart from yours. Let us know whether yours is petrol or diesel James. Kind regards Gareth.

Hi Lee...welcome to the Forum I agree with the other two...Gumtree is probably best place as in your local area and can at least try before you buy (as in fit one on and see if it fits and looks good, etc). Keep us updated on how you get on with finding some Cheers Trevor

I was told by someone recently that it also works well on shower screens. Saves having to squeegy down especially in hard water areas to prevent limescale build up which is a pain to clean off. I can't see why it won't work. Thats my top tip of the day

Hi Alan...welcome to the Forum Usually, the DPF is only fitted to cars after late 2007 but in general, if the car is driven properly, on good roads with limited traffic jams and the engine is used properly (as in driven hard) then there is no problem with DPF. The problem occurs when the engine is not revved sufficiently for long periods for it to regenerate. So in other words, if you drive around town predominantly then a diesel with a DPF is not an ideal combination. Cheers Trevor

Thanks both. In the end I bought a 2015 65 plate S4 for 8k miles... VERY happy with it all round. What do you guys get mpg wise ...? Seems thirsty round town but ok on a long run so far?

Well Trevor, age is what you are lucky enough to make if it. Suffice it to say the oldest car I have ( and that one has been with me for 37 years) is a bit older than me! It still goes, and stops, when you remember to sent it a postcard. Now Bradley is going to ask what a postcard is, bless him! Indeed, there does seem to be a good mix of contributions on here, and unfortunately as Brad says, I don't do concise very well! Still, it's a contribution, and we should congratulate those reading mine to the end! From my side, I would welcome more information in the initial question, since very often, the answer is in the detail of the question. The debate I have now is whether it's worth me investing in a 5 year guarantee battery for one of the cars, on the basis of whether a 3 year would do me - if you see what it mean! So i've done enough testing, £30 of Shell V-Power, as light as possible on acceleration and no heated seats and ive peaked at 86.1 miles which has put me back to 35 miles remaining on the trip display which is the same place i always refil at. So whats your thoughts? To put into perspective this car could probably take £90 to fill the tank which taking my peak of 86.1 miles per £30 would return 258.3 miles for a tank :/ My dad just went to wales (250 miles) for £20 granted you cant compare because of the weight and size of the engine but is this the best it can achieve?

Hello Peter, Before getting too far into possible causes, it may be worth considering buying another new bulb, but from the main dealer. There are a lot of inferior aftermarket electrical components about, and this may just be one of them. Not sure where you bought it, but try nipping into your local main dealer, and see how you get on. If that fails then at least you have some redress, and assurances that you then need to look elsewhere for problems. When you think about this logically, the bulb works initially, so the curcuit must be in order ( if it didn't work and you knew the bulb was serviceable, then you investigate curcuit problems). For the curcuit to be in order and a bulb to blow, then the options are too high a voltage - and where would this system get a higher voltage than any other curcuit on the car? - a higher current, and the same applies, or a bulb which is not capable of withstanding correct voltage and currents for anything more than a short space of time. My money would be on the latter, and trying a good quality bulb first. Now some may say that main dealer bulbs are made far east of the Thames estuary as most others are! Fair point. This was exactly me when I first bought it lol I did though definitely feel the change and not it's more for peace of mind that it's keeping my engine cleaner and in good condition ;)

Quality is immediately noticeable I reckon...as soon as you've fill it and driving it the mpg goes up and feels quicker....either that or my subconsieous is saying 'come on you've paid good money for that, you will notice the difference!'
