Thankyou for your reply. My brother is a mechanic and he said the same. I booked in for it to be looked at. Was told to expect it to be not cheap. While waiting for the day, I decided to buy a new battery myself and try it. And it works. And the spare! I'm assuming the battery was almost dead and the one in my spare was dead so when I swapped them over that's why it worked intermittently. I'm cross with the guy in the key place though for telling me it wasn't the battery. He could have cost me a fortune 😫
  2. Hello, Unfortunately, I didn't. It took me many hours of browsing forums and engaging in further discussions with the garages before I decided to map out the unit. Since I've conducted some research, may I advise you to consider the following: Check and clean the Adblue connections. Follow the pipes from the Adblue tank to the engine and see if you can identify any frost-like abrasions. If yes, replace the pipes. Also, try going for an extended ride; sometimes the nozzle can become blocked, and if you drive for a longer duration, it may clear the blockage. Lastly, if none of the above helps (this was my case), you should typically replace the Adblue pump as the sensor is integrated with the pump and cannot be replaced separately (expensive). I hope you'll find a straightforward solution. Oh, forgot to mention that you need to top up the Adblue. If your level is low, this can sometimes trigger the same error. Good luck.
  3. I had the same problem with my 2010 A3 sportback 2l diesel.. except mine starts and runs as normal. Dash clocks sent away for investigation and repair. No fault found. Cluster returned, refitted everything now working fine again. Conclusion..Intermittent fault. Anyone with any remedy to fix this permanently.. rather than removal and reconnection should it happen again would be appreciated.
  4. Id recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. I'm wondering if your battery is failing if it's old as a failing battery can throw up unusual electrical gremlins.
