  1. So like most people I've made new years resolutions including to stop swearing. This is ironic as my other new years resolution is to remove the A6 engine and establish what's gone on it. I'm doing this with support from a friend who is doing a mechanics course. We're doing this slowly/taking our time and methodically, labeling all pipes, wiring connectors and parts we remove. I'm also boxing components up according to their functions ie air system/,coolant system etc. were also doing a photo diary and using manuals. I was going to send the A6 to a mechanic friend (former friend) but this is no longer happening as I've discovered him to be dishonest and feel the A6 would not be safe in his care. Off the back of this,I'm determined to improve my mechanical knowledge and this will be supported by the fact I'm on a 4 month secondment as support staff in the education department working alongside a tutor teaching mechanics to young people. If any of you have any hints, tips, tricks or advice then please don't hesitate to share. Day 1 - not too exciting as we had limited time, we just removed the air box, maf, induction piping and coolant expansion tank, the later needs changing as you can't see the level anymore. Next plan is to remove the bumper/headlights so we can remove the radiator and rest of the coolant system.

    Will do 👍
  3. Thank you for the advice Cliff, it's greatly appreciated 🙂 We've refitted screws, nuts, bolts etc to their respective parts. I've also taken pictures of each stage so we can reverse the process.
  4. Good idea to label each nondescript part like wires and connections which aren't obvious to the naked eye. It's surprising how quickly memory can fade. I suggest: [a] fit nuts etc. to their respective bolts/studs so they don't become mixed, [b] note the order of dismantling so you can reverse it for re-assembly, [c] note or mark the relative positions of parts such as camshaft & crankshaft that need to be phased correctly when re-fitted.

Thank you Kevin. There are fewer than a dozen regular contributors to the forum, so naturally the effort is spread thinly, however it is generally well considered and worth waiting for.

Dont worry no offence taken. Forums are often slower than social media. Hope the information has been useful

Kevin, Try ringing your nearest Audi dealer on a Sunday afternoon, and see what response you get. Zilch! Then try them in the morning and inform them you want an answer in within a couple of hours at most. Good luck with that! Regards, Gareth.

Hi they are cornering lights and only work when the lights and ignition are on and you turn the wheel if either side has no operation the bulbs have gone. Steve

Kevin. To expect an answer to your question wthin 2.5 hours of joining the forum is unreasonable. Wait a few days for somebody with both the knowledge and the inclination to reply.

Thanks for that Steve. i am going to do just that. The engine management light is not on atm so hopefully it goes away. I have not had anything on dash with a countdown to non start. Hopefully it has just been water in something and it dries out. I have been looking at a few pump prices and i don't really fancy replacing.

I'd clear it and see if it comes back over the ect few days. Had a look on HR forum and this member had a similar issue:

It has been done by at least one member of these forums. That's why I mentioned it.
  13. The centre screens failing is a common problem. I'd recommend googling instrument cluster repairers in your area. If they're after something custom then you could speak to cluster modz.

Please keep us posted on how you get on
  15. Hi Dont go there anything over 6000k is normally a blue light or higher up a purple light which wont really give you what you want and will be like a magnet for any police patrols who will then start asking awkward questions probably involving a fine at some point. Steve.
  16. Hi yes they do degrade over time and when they start to die completely they go pink, if yours are the original bulbs they are either 3200k or 4200k, you can upgrade to 5500k or 6000k with a very noticeable brighter light my preference would be 6000k as this is a sharp white light, look on a site for valley lighting, you may be well served changing the ballast units as well as they can also degrade. Steve.
