  1. Hi its either the temperature sensor that controls the fan or most likely the fan control unit mounted on the fan assembly in front of the radiator. Steve.
  2. Hi if as Gareth said you invest in a trim removal kit the job is fairly straight forward start at the top and work your way round down the right side, the cover has a push in locking system at the bottom so once the top and sides are free lift the cover up and out, depending on the model some of the covers are glued to the rear lumbar adjustment this can be removed from the metal plate with a bit of persistence and re attached with velcro, heat the plastic with a heat gun but you have to keep the the heat moving whilst pushing gently from the inside with the plastic handle of a screwdriver or similar, did a lot of this with bumpers during the eighties they took a bit of time as they were a lot thicker but the fact is ABS plastic will always try and go back to its moulded shape. PS any clips you need to replace are on Ebay at a tenth of the price from the dealer. Steve.
  3. Hi its all dependent on the type of engine you have, there is a setting on VCDS but I can't pin it down because I don't have your car to plug in to, therefore can you supply the information to narrow it down, also check the vacuum pipe to the unit as this can be the original problem as any loss in the air circuit will cause problems. Steve.
  4. Hi OBD eleven pro, if you go for the VCDS as I did its expensive and wont read anything past 2019 because of the SFD firewall system on the later cars, therefore I had to buy OBD eleven as I now own a 21 plate passat with the SFD but I tried it out on a few cars including my accountants 2017 Q5 and it read everything, look on their site and choose what suits you. Steve.
  5. Hi to be honest you can't tell what a batteries condition is with a multimeter, best go to Halfords and get it tested under load I.E, everything switched on lights, blower, heated screens, if the battery is remotely the original its knackered, you say the ABS pump was recoded with what?, was it your unit repaired or a new unit. Steve.
  6. Hi should be able to do it in basic settings, but I will look at my VCDS Monday and try and work this out for you but in saying this I have not heard many glowing reports of aftermarket manifolds. Steve.
  7. Hi pretty straight forward if you look at the second picture the tab in front of you has no locking hook, that is the position tab which is lower and wider than the rest so if you find the reciprocal slot on the vent once located it should just push in. Steve.
  8. Hi please let us know how you get on.
  9. Hi yes the new unit has to be adapted so that its new values can be learned, was tan aftermarket/second hand manifold? Steve.
  10. Hi for all you folks out there with Adblue tank problems mainly caused by crystals in the system, level sensors and delivery pipes, had a good long look at this product and what it does and its been very successful when used on lorries and is now available for cars, adding approx £11-14 on to your adblue fill its still cheaper than a new system that you can only get from Audi. Steve.
  11. PS you don't have to be a rocket scientist to operate OBDEleven its a cheap diagnostic platform that works on an Android phone, I bought one and it cuts out the Monkeys and bolt on merchants and makes adaptation a piece of pixx and will save you a fortune, I have just changed and re coded my accountants battery on his Q5 it took an hour the unbolting is hardest as the battery is at the back of the boot, registering it took ten minuets. Steve.
  12. Hi disconnecting the BEM wont recalibrate it, when you re adapt a new unit you sit in the car or near the engine bay and if you listen carefully you can hear the butterfly moving in the new body as the ECU commands about ten different positions according to its learned strategy, once the body has complied it is then registered within the ECU as correct therefore how does disconnecting the battery energy monitor do the adaptation, get it adapted first and it may well save you a pedal sensor and having the same problem when fitted. Steve.
  13. Hi are you sure your VCDS is up to date as as when it can't connect to the car at all it normally throws up Can gateway unable to communicate. Steve.
  14. Hi I don't think its a feature as all yellow warning lights should extinguish when the car is started, this should have been picked up on the PDI. Steve.
  15. Hi did they re adapt the new throttle body as without that it wont work properly anytime soon, if they did it may be the sensor on the throttle pedal. Steve.
  16. Hi anything Bosch/Hella you can't go wrong as most of their stuff was used O.E., I had Hella boost and Dpf pressure sensors when I changed mine and you could see where the extra money went, to quote one of Magnets favourite sayings, buy once buy right it is true good advice. Steve.
  17. Hi if both items have been on the car since new it might be worth changing both for Bosch units, O.E. on average most oxygen sensors and MAFs only last about 80k or three years and gradually go what's known as blind the o2 sensor especially, the MAF heats up and measures how long it takes to cool giving a raw value of the speed and ambient air temperature coming in, the 02 sensor does exactly the same thing but because of the precious metal coating inside it only measures the oxygen level in the exhaust gas stream, both are easy to change but will need re adaption to learn new values. Steve.
  18. Hi which brand of master cylinder was fitted, it sounds very much like either the system still has air in it or the cylinder is defective [not unknown on aftermarket] I personally went through this some years back and finally bought a genuine LUK unit which once power bled solved my problem, the main problem was the cheapo Dot 4 my garage used so I switched to Comma ESP 4 and the combination of a new cylinder and a brake fluid change cured it. Steve.
  19. Hi well the SMART thing to do would be to supply more info, is it sticking down/up or is a guessing job.
  20. Hi its most likely the oxygen sensor, problem being when you put the other MAF on it will need re adaption and cleaning both with brake cleaner wont help, contact cleaner is better as it wont strip the coating off the MAF diode, the o2 sensor is the same as its coated inside with palladium and other precious metals but if the heater is going no amount of cleaning will cure it, with regard to throwing money away a new sensor is not that expensive but still needs adaption when fitted. Steve.
  21. Hi Richard, spot on, my mate reckons still that the ride is much quieter and the grip in the wet is excellent, running a mid range Laufenn made by Toyo on my taxi very good for the money. Steve.
  22. Hi no adjustment, they are a fixed length between the actuator and turbo not like the older type of actuator where you could shorten the rod to tweak up the boost pressure.
  23. well did it improve the performance.
  24. Hi it looks like the PCV valve has become broken/disconnected and is spraying crankcase gas and oil vapour over the engine, the part wont be that expensive and I should imagine about an hours labour easy fix. Steve.
  25. Hi based on what you have posted it may well be the actuator, BUT I have seen this many times with Variable Vane Turbos, what happens is the vanes become sticky and can't open and close quickly this in turn knackers the actuator as its constantly trying against increased resistance to close the vanes therefore killing the actuator, easy way of checking the vanes is to chuck a spray can of Wynns turbo cleaner down the inlet ducting after the air box, if after treatment it runs better it will definitely be the vanes sticking, depending on the milage you may be better getting a new turbo as if you fit the new actuator you will soon be back to square one. Steve.
