I used to keep getting the same problem on my '04 A3. It used to happen every time I gave my mate a lift (putting it politely he's generously built). Turns out when he put the seat all the way back it was undoing the connector under the seat. Could be worth a look if you put the seat back to work on the blower.

Bet you can't wait for it to get dark so you can try them out! Seriously though, they make a huge difference.

That sounds awful Tom, after the first listen I thought it was just a loose exhaust banging against the chassis but after playing it back a few times I'm no longer sure. If it was mine I'd get it looked at sharpish mate just to be on the safe side.

If you can live with keeping the oil topped up you might be surprised how long it survives, and maybe get a drip tray to leave under the car when it's parked overnight or longer? An old paint roller tray or similar would do if you know where the oil is dripping from.

Where was the car parked while you were away mate? Just wondering because there have been a lot of horror stories in the press recently about airport parking companies using (and often damaging) vehicles while the owners were away.

I'm only on my second Audi but it does seem that water ingress, electrical issues, and a combination of the two are a constant problem whatever the age of the car. It's like owning a 1970's Alfasud but without the rust. Shame as I really love styling and the way they get down the road.

Welcome aboard mate, and nice looking motor too. And I have the same problem with the sensors, not fun with the sedan, and that's coming from an ex HGV1 driver.

The old trick for cleaning the inside of a fuel tank was to throw in a handful of nut (the ones that go on bolts, not the KP variety!) and then shake your moneymaker like your life depended on it, obviously removing anything like fuel sender etc first.

I totally agree with Gareth on this, unless you have access to a very good workshop manual. If you get it wrong broken trim can be surprisingly expensive to replace, and very ugly if you don't.

I think if you add cambelt and water pump to that list you've pretty much covered all the big stuff you need to worry about as long as the services were genuine regarding fluids, filters and the like. Regarding the little annoying faults I guess it all depends on how much you enjoy tinkering with cars. I bought a 2 owner 2003 A6 last year with more service history and garage receipts than any car I've ever owned but I'm still sorting out all the small stuff bit by bit. As far as driveability goes the car is excellent but I like the little things to be right too so I'm quite enjoying the process (frustrating as it is at times).

Hi Chris, have you tried it with the canvas good and wet? That might give it enough "give" to do what you need to do. I'm a big fan of fixing things myself whenever possible so good luck to you mate.

I HATE electrical faults, they never seem straightforward to fix, unlike mechanical faults which can usually be sorted out with a bit of knowledge, common sense, and a decent pair of hands. Do you know anyone with a good VAG scanner mate or a decent mobile auto electrician locally? If not it's sounding like a trip to an Audi dealer if you can get the car there. Good luck.
