  1. Doesn't seem so much like a random stream of letters now, well played Noleen, lol.
  2. Just as a footnote to this thread, with the size of the engine bay on these surely Audi could've found a way to leave just a couple of inches extra access to the back of the headlights, it's not a lot to ask. Gits!
  3. Hi William and welcome aboard. You may not know much about cars now but if you spend a bit of time in the forums you'll certainly know a lot about Audi problems and what to do about them before long! It's a nice friendly group full of good help and advice and all things Audi. Hope you enjoy it here mate.
  4. I don't know what the official line is but from my point of view it's nice to be able to use someone's name when answering them rather than a string of letters or numbers, it's just a first name after all, nothing mega.
  5. Exactly what Clifford said, when you go in don't be woolly or vague in what you want, these people are professionals at what they do and will know they have you on the ropes at that point. Be calm, clear and firm in what you expect from them without it descending into a shouting match, that will get you nowhere. If they won't budge inform them that you will be taking it further and walk away.
  6. Go back with your evidence and ask for a refund or money off of the asking price, whichever you prefer. If they don't play ball contact their head office and try the same, if you still get no joy mention social media and always remember the Citizens Advice Bureau really are your best friend in situations like this (assuming you have them in Ireland?). They will give you better advice and help than we can here. I really hope you get a result from speaking to the dealer as ending up in the small claims court will be a real hassle. Good luck mate, and please keep us informed, I for one would be really interested to hear how this plays out.
  7. Hi Tyler, I've only just seen this thread and I hate to ask what may be an obvious question but have you checked your battery? Mine starting throwing warning lights at me (and always starting with the parking brake light) before it became obvious I needed a new battery, after replacing it everything was good again.
  8. Showing all the signs, and the door harness as you said. It's part of the door actuator, not a switch in the door shuts.
  9. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the door switch on one side operates a bit like a master switch in that if it fails neither side will work, but if the other one fails only that side is effected. If I can find it again I'll post a link as I can't remember which side is "the boss". It won't be tonight though mate, sorry, starting work at 2am so I'll be calling it a night soon.
  10. That's a lot mate, did they all go at the same time?
  11. I had the same problem with my '04 A3 1.6 petrol, every once in a while it would do exactly the same thing and flash up warning lights on the dash, I found running with the heater set to max lessened the events but they still happened. Eventually the gearbox grenaded itself so I never did get to the bottom of it but I have read (I think it was on here) that there was a run of A3 1.6's with faulty pistons if I remember correctly that were subject to a recall. I'm guessing the previous owners of our cars missed that recall. If I can find the thread I'll post the link here for you.
  12. Each time it's happened it's been straight after an unintentional "Italian Tune Up" so I'm avoiding over revving it for the time being. It's more Driving Miss Daisy than Fast And Furious at the moment mate!
  13. Well done Gareth, something in this thread that genuinely made me laugh, thanks mate.
  14. I was thinking the same, it just seemed strange that each time after turning off the ignition and restarting the car (after about 30 minutes the first time but straightaway the second time) the problem went away. I'm wondering if it's a sticky wastegate actuator that I pushed too far by over revving it? I haven't got a code reader so unless it happens regularly I'm going to wait until my MOT in a month or two and get the guy to have a look then. He's an old friend so if the car's in the workshop anyway he usually has a look at things like that for free as he'll be getting the job anyway if there's anything to do.
  15. Hi Andrew, I've had a similar problem twice now, but I'm pretty sure both times were caused by over revving (stereo on, talking to wife, going a bit mutton) when joining a dual carriageway and pushing too hard in 4th so I'm wondering if this is a possibility in your case? First time I nursed it home about 20 miles as I had the kids in the car and didn't want to risk not being able to restart the car after stopping. Symptoms were basically no power like you, but even at higher revs, it felt exactly as if someone had removed the turbo. the water temp, oil pressure and temp were all normal and no smoke from exhaust so I took the chance and got home ok. Had something to eat and let the car cool down then went to investigate, no oil or water loss, so I tried starting the car and everything was fine. Second time a couple of months later the same thing happened but this time I pulled over at the first chance, turned off the ignition and started it again pretty much straightaway and again the problem was gone. Obviously this hasn't worked for you but the problem sounds so similar I'd be interested to know if you cure it as I feel it's only a matter of time before it happens again. Good luck with fixing it mate. Dave
  16. Totally agree Kevin, it's my biggest gripe on this and other sites where people go out of their way to help others only to be met with silence, and it's becoming increasingly common unfortunately. Maybe it's just me getting old but I find myself having to bite my lip more and more often rather than having a rant online. I brought my kids up to say please and thank you as an absolute minimum when dealing with people but it seems that we and others here who give up their time and knowledge in hope of a simple "thank you" are a dying breed. I remember when I first left school an old guy I worked with telling a rude customer who wanted a favour that you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar, and another that said if someone thinks they're helping you out and offers you a bucket of s*** to smile and say thank you, you can always put it on your roses or give it to someone else who needs it. That said, I'll keep giving advice where I can as I appreciate the thanks when I get it and it's nice knowing you've helped someone out.
  17. Hi Steve and thanks for the info mate. I was sort of leaning towards the original as I don't like to make things difficult for myself if I can help it so you've helped make up my mind. I noticed the fans too which I thought was weird as it seems to be at odds with everything I thought about LEDs. I thought they ran loads cooler and lasted way longer than regular bulbs, I'm guessing they're being pushed to their absolute limits in this application? Anyway, thanks again for the info and the tip about the whiter light, every day is a school day! Dave
  18. Afternoon all, one of the Xenon HID projector (D2S) bulbs gave up the ghost this morning and after looking for a replacement I noticed some LED versions that are supposedly direct "plug and play" replacements. Has anyone got any experience of using these and if so are they a hassle to fit and would you recommend them, or just go with the original spec bulb? Incidentally I'm only considering the LEDs from a service life point of view, I'm not looking for a mega high output boy racer type spec that illuminates the whole of West Cornwall every time I turn them on, just something around the standard Lumens output. Thanks in advance for any help. Dave
  19. Handy hints, thanks. I think I have at least one to replace myself and wasn't sure if I needed special paint so as not to damage functionality of the sensor.
  20. I had exactly the same problem with my '04 1.6 A3, unfortunately I didn't get to the bottom of it before the gearbox destroyed itself. I suspect it was head gasket related. Do you have any creamy residue under the oil filler cap, mine was beginning to show signs of this.

  22. Brilliant mate, glad you stuck with it and got it sorted. Well done.
