Ah so good not worry about my dad got bmw 520d 2006 never had that ?? Is it only on newer cars ?this kind of regen?

Yep, only new cars. Anything made 2009 and onwards. They had to have the dpf and egr from 2009 to comply with the new emissions regulations

Im going to audi need cambelt change so will tell them to check the fan if its that regen of dpf or what

Sounds good :) they'll be able to tell you easily :)

but as I say I believe it's just a regen, and I say this as I worked for a Volkswagen service department ;)

Yeah suddenly turns on and so hot air from exhaust tip and both fans running

Yep sounds like dpf regeneration to me. If the fan stays on constantly whilst driving then I would suggest there is an issue with thermostat but I'd see how it goes :)

  4. Hey Geoff,

i think the main problem is a lack of access to the rear of the lights. Fabricating a tool sounds like a good idea :)

i don't think you can lubricate the back of the lights due to the nature of the electrics.

Iv found this video, it may help :)

iv been unable to find any pics of the headlight bulb holder, sorry.

    Hope iv helped :)

    cheers

Hi I got audi a3 tdi 2011 s line black edition recently I went to work and suddenly fans turned on to cool the engine down ??? What could be the problem I stand behind car and felt very hot air coming out from exhaust, makes me worried.now somewhere on internet I was reading its dpf regenerating it self ???

I'm assuming your a3 is diesel and you would be right. I would say it's the dpf regenerating itself :)

the car puts the fans on to keep the engine cool whilst it burns off the particulates from the dpf. It burns off the particulates from the exhaust when the exhaust is hot :)

    hope iv helped :)

    cheers

  8. Right.

Think we are all ready for show time!

Those that are joining my brother and I for breakfast we are meeting at 7am at the premier inn in Chippenham. You can't miss us we will be in Audiownersclub.com t shirts.

Remember for those not meeting us for breakfast, ideally you need to be at the track for 7:30 to be on the club display. I suspect we will get away wilth later but don't quote me on that.

I will then be giving members there vehicle passes but please note this is first come first served as I have 12 passes (think this should be enough anyway)

oh and I will be giving you all FREE audiownersclub.com stickers :)

Those members who have let Trevor or I know your t shirt size - Trevor should be  bringing your t shirts when he arrives at 10am. Again these are FREE :)

cheers all and see you in the morning! I'm now going to have a couple of drinks from the bar :)

    All,

I appreciate that this thread goes back some what and some of you may have already forked out to repair your vehicles but hopefully this will help others.

I took my A4 into the Audi store earlier this week after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment.

My malfunction light has been on for some time and there has been an intermittent smell of burning coming from the exhaust on shorter haul journeys along with noticable increase in heat when at the rear of the car. The error code was showing a lambda probe issue.

I had to pick my car up again from Audi the same day and have just dropped it off this morning.

By some very convenient coincidence I came home yesterday to a Service Action letter from Audi relating to EA 189 Diesel Engines - It's a goodwill policy following the Nox "fix" for all exhaust components. Which includes EGR, Injection System, Emissions After Treatment, Lambd probe, temperature sensor, EGR changeover valve, exhaust gas re circulation valve, exhaust re circulation pressure differential sensor,  injector, high pressure pump, fuel rail, pressure control value, pressure sensor and high pressure pipelines.

Essentially, Audi appear to start admitting that this "fix" causes significant issues for a portion of the cars which it has been applied to.

My car is back in today and I'm just waiting to see what they come back with!!

If any of you want a copy of the letter - please feel free to contact me.

    Cheers,

    Scott

Hi Scott, I find this very interesting as when I worked at a Volkswagen service department we had a lot of cars come with failed egr valves and egr coolers!

Agter that watch dog program I don't think the vag group can hide the problems anymore!

Please keep us posted on joe you get on.

    Cheers

    steve
