Id recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. Could be a dpf but could equally be a maf sensor.

Have you checked the pollen filter housing or battery tray.

You'd be best finding a gearbox for the 2.7. Could a A6 C5 2.7 work?

Think it could be the rod that attached to the door handle.
