The car will be on standalone engine management, so the fuel pump will be run from the ecu via fuel pump relay, so a lot neater. Everything has been taken out so far, even the door wiring as its going fully stripped. More progress in the near future once parts arrive.

Nice, looking forward to seeing how this develops

The ccm is out, all wiring will be removed and start from scratch. The windows will be ordered next week, the ecu will be ordered next week.

Nice, please keep me posted on how you get on as I'd be interested in deleting mine if it's knackered. What are you doing about the fuel pump?

Sorry Steve , I left you another message. I’d got my messages about canoes (I’ve asked a number of clubs) crossed. This canoe I want isn’t in Nottingham, it’s in Runcorn!🤦🏻‍♂️

I’m really sorry. I’ll let you know when I’m next heading to my sisters in Northampton.

Bless ya not a problem! Easy to get mixed up. I've done it plenty of times.

    Hi Steve,

    How are you?

I’m looking to get up to Nottingham sometime time next week (don’t know exactly when yet, that’s down to when I can get into Notts kayak club, could be the weekend ), to buy a racing kayak, so could bring the wheels up then if you’re still interested in them?

Hey I'm good thank you, definitely still interested. I'm in the isle of man until Wednesday evening. Weekend would be ideal 13th.

  5. Funnily enough I'm in the process of changing my suspension on my old A6 c5. From my understanding eibach pro kit are lowering springs. Bilstein b4 are or quality shocks.

Steve Y recommend Kilen springs to me. But standard shocks and springs should suit your needs.

Hi yes thats normal for the type of coating, it won't matter as when fitted if you use a drop of thread lock that also seals the thread to prevent moisture ingress, just paint the heads with a good rust proofing spray and they never rot.

    Steve.

    Perfect thanks Steve 🙂

Will be good to get it all back together.

A bit random, but I discovered bilstein UK based is in Leicester. Small world.

Hi good skills you are getting the hang of this parts procurement, most parts for VAG have always been made by someone else, Bosch, Febi, Mann etc, prime example I needed a fuel filter for my daughters GLA that was going to be trade £109+VAT, quick look at the old one tells me it was Mann in origin so went fishing with the oe number and got a Mann filter from parts in motion for £45 shipped, I was told by an ex REME engineer the principle of working on any vehicle is if you can strip it down without breaking it you can bl@@dy well put it back together without breaking it.

    Steve.

Thanks Steve 🙂 I've already trial fitted the bracket and suspension caps so I know they all fit with the new bolts. I have noticed though that the zinc coating seems to have come off the threads of the bolts. Is that normal? IMG20260530165700.jpg

I've also rang kilen direct to get the exact part numbers for the springs I need. They do only heavy duty for the rear so I'll order them and standard for the front.

I've also found a company who will strip a d powder coat the rear beam/axle and have offered to powder coat the new springs.

  8. Christmas came early 🙂

Ordered new axle/beam brackets with bushes (one Lemforder and one meyle - it was cheaper this way rather than buying crap ones).

    Febi spring mounts.

    And all bolts.

Hi be cool, the bolts without the points will work you just have to start them carefully, the chamfered bolts were designed so any Whelk on the production line could blast the bolts in with an air ratchet, as for the axle falling off there is more chance of Michael Jackson arising from the dead, just invest in a large bottle of blue thread lock and give the first inch of the bolt a thin vertical line of it before you fit them then use the correct torque.

    Steve.

    Sorry Steve for fretting.

  10. Hello Steve, I tried the company you recommended they don't have them. I've found a company that can provide high tenstile bolts if the correct size. But they're flat rather than pointy at the end. Will these work?

I have found the full bracket kit with bolts for £180 but the company couldn't confirm if they were stretch bolts provided.

I'd appreciate your advice if the normal flat end high tenstile bolts will be ok.

Tearing my hair out with bolts as I dont want the axle falling out.

This is the kit I could have ordered but they couldn't confirm if the bolts supplied are stretch bolts:

    This is what I've ordered:

Hi try All Screwed Up they are near you and supply any amount you require and can probably match what you have, one of my mates used them when building a kit car, we went up there a few years ago and came back with every fixing required and the extra we needed they posted to us.

    Steve.

Fantastic thank you so much Steve.

  12. Thanks Steve I've emailed Kilen to confirm the heavy duty suspension springs fit my model. Fingers crossed they do 🤞 I'm finding that some bolts are now obsolete. I have the dimensions as per LLL parts, do you know anywhere that would sell them (generic bolt companies in thinking).

    Thank you.
